Today, we stand together to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, honoring the memory of the 14 women whose lives were tragically taken at École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1989. This day is a solemn reminder of the importance of addressing gender-based violence and promoting equality and respect in all aspects of our society. As we reflect, let us commit to fostering safer spaces, amplifying women's voices, and taking meaningful action to prevent violence and discrimination.

Today marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence—a campaign that has connected the world since its inception in 1991. Running from November 25th to December 10th, these 16 days serve as a bridge between two pivotal dates: 👉 The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 👉 Human Rights Day The message? Gender-based violence is a human rights violation. This year’s campaign has highlighted: 🔸 The power of awareness—naming and understanding the forms of GBV. 🔸 The power of education—breaking down systemic barriers to equality. 🔸 The power of action—transforming knowledge into meaningful change. At SBS, we stand firmly behind the belief that progress is only possible in environments of respect, equality and safety. While the campaign concludes today, the work continues. These 16 days are not just a calendar event—they’re a global movement for a better tomorrow. 📢 Help to keep the momentum going: Reshare this post. Start the conversation. Take action. 🔗 Learn more and find ways to get involved at UN Women’s website. The experiences of women cannot be homogenized; they vary significantly based on socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, and other intersecting factors. Acknowledging intersectionality is crucial for understanding these complexities and ensuring that discussions about women's issues are nuanced and inclusive. By centering the voices of those experiencing overlapping forms of oppression, feminist movements can develop more effective strategies for promoting equality and addressing systemic injustices across diverse populations.
