Garden State Allergy & Ashtma Center Better understanding of childhood asthma, towards primary prevention – are we there yet? Consideration of pertinent literature Asthma is a chronic disease, characterized by reversible airway obstruction, airway inflammation and hyper-reactivity. The prevalence of asthma has risen dramatically over the past decade, affecting around 300,000,000 people. The etiology is multifactorial, with genetic, epigenetic, developmental and environmental factors playing a role. A complex interaction between the intrauterine environment, the developing immune system, the infant's microbiome and infectious organisms may lead to the development of allergic sensitization and asthma. Thus, a large number of studies have investigated the risk factors for childhood asthma, with a meticulous search of modifiable factors that could aid in primary prevention.

I congratulate David E. Melon, MD, FACS ‘s thesis acceptance and publication in this month’s Laryngoscope highlighting our private practice’s effort to apply patient journey mapping and care coordination strategies within allergy immunotherapy treatment for chronic disease management of inhalant allergies. https://lnkd.in/eB-8EHzU Core in the study’s finding was the ability to achieve robust high frequency patient engagement data capture achieving survey response rates of over 80% within the collection of over 61,000 survey questions within the study period. The application of electronic health survey instruments, patient reported outcomes, and other measures must have relevance to the patient’s own clinical care goals in order to achieve meaningful response rates for analytical power in future care coordination and patient journey strategies. Automated survey distribution and triggered clinical engagement points driven by patient responses relating to the care they are receiving will be key for successful chronic disease management within future value based care clinical pathways. #patientexpeience #patientjourneymapping #chronicdisease #valuebasedcare #carecoordination

September Marks Peak Asthma Season for Kids 🌿🏥📚 As summer ends and children head back to school, experts are warning parents about the rise in asthma cases. Dr. Gailen Marshall, president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, highlights September as a peak month due to increased exposure to viruses, environmental allergens like mold and ragweed, and disruptions in asthma management routines. Allergists often see a spike in asthma attacks and hospitalizations among children during this time. It's crucial for parents to ensure their kids are following their asthma management plans and stay vigilant against potential triggers. #AsthmaAwareness #BackToSchool #AllergySeason https://lnkd.in/d86Gti6Z

Immune signatures predict response to house dust mite subcutaneous immunotherapy in patients with allergic rhinitis. First author: Nan Wang; corresponding authors: Yin Yao, Zheng Liu Read the article here: doi.org/10.1111/all.16068 In allergic #rhinitis (AR) patients undergoing house dust mite subcutaneous immunotherapy (HDM SCIT), distinct clinical and immune features are observed between responders and nonresponders prior to treatment. A model with a combination of baseline sIgE/tIgE ratio, TFR/TFH2 cell ratio, and CD23+ BSM frequency exhibits a strong predictive value for SCIT efficacy, as evidenced by a 12-month posttreatment assessment. The efficacy of this model is validated in an independent cohort. #Allergy_journal Read more articles published in Allergy on #immunotherapy here: https://lnkd.in/dVsjXuR8 https://lnkd.in/gXSmW89Y is a link to the April issue table of contents.

I have been on all sides of a clinical trial. Clinical trials must be a health care option. 1. When I was young - My mom consented for me to be in a clinical trial from age 4 to 17. 2. I wrote a protocol as a new Clinical Researcher. I tried to consent my 1st patient & the patient informed me the protocol was not patient friendly. I learned the importance of Patient Co-Creation of a Clinical Trial Protocol. 3. I have consented as an adult to be a part of a clinical trial. 4. Even though today is Clinical Trials Awareness Day, there are many ways People can engage in research. a. Provide patient and caregiver insights about living with a condition. b. Provide insights about a study protocol and patient participation c. Participate in an disease or condition specific education study. d. Provide insights about new medication options e. Provide expertise to studies f. Help write and review clinical trial summaries for patients. There are many more places patient ans caregiver partners can participate. If you have questions about participating, give me a shout!
Today is Clinical Trial Awareness Day! Clinical trials help improve the lives of people living with different health conditions and are important in advancing treatment and management for many chronic diseases. Anyone can get involved as a patient partner in a clinical trial! Allergy & Asthma Network continues to participate in research to help improve quality of life but we need your insight and understanding of exactly what it is like to live with asthma, allergies, or related conditions. Learn how you can get involved today! https://lnkd.in/e5HskWsc
