This week I had the privilege of attending an incredibly insightful book event with Peter Schwartzstein, discussing his latest work, “The Heat and The Fury”. The book delves into the often-overlooked but crucial topic of climate violence and its growing impact on our world. Peter’s talk was both enlightening and alarming, shedding light on how climate change exacerbates conflicts, displacement, and social unrest. His meticulous research and powerful storytelling painted a vivid picture of the human cost of environmental degradation. It was a wake-up call, reminding us of the urgency to address climate issues not just for the planet’s sake, but for the preservation of peace and humanity. I left feeling more informed and inspired to take action more action than what I am already doing. Peter’s passion and dedication to this cause were truly inspiring, and his book is a must-read for anyone who cares about the future of our planet and humankind. Personally, having been to some of the parts of the world he discusses, I’ve seen the first hand account off the human cost of the changing environment and climate. Communities being displaced, starved, drought amongst so much more is a harrowing site. Witnessing this has a profound effect that we need to address this now. Let’s all strive to be part of the solution and create a sustainable, peaceful future. #climatecrisis #humanity #climateviolence

Check out a special article from California Climate and Energy Collaborative's Statewide Best Practices Coordinator Angie Hacker on how California can continue to invest in the people, places, and programs that are working to avoid the worst impacts of climate change on our communities, stepping up even more to retain the dollars we have and reform funding processes so we divert fewer resources on ineffective deployment. https://lnkd.in/grsUG6tF

Today’s political climate often reduces complex issues like modernizing our transit infrastructure to binary choices, making everyone worse off if those solutions fail. Moreover, such framing often creates a city versus suburbs conflict when the entire region suffers if the MTA collapses. We need congestion pricing, but the current plan doesn’t fit our present realities. Instead of using a playbook from five years ago, let’s develop one for today. Check out the piece that Scott Rechler and I wrote in the New York Daily News: https://lnkd.in/e_hqsWfA
