🐟 “Basa on the Menu: A Fishy Dilemma” 🐟 During my recent trip to Kashmir, I noticed something surprising—the fish on the Kashmiri menu was Vietnamese Basa. Without much thought, I said no. Later, I asked myself, Why did I say no? Reputation or Reality? Vietnamese Basa seems to carry a bad reputation—linked to allegations of heavy metals, antibiotics, and questionable quality. But is this based on facts or hearsay? Even I acted on perception, which isn’t fair. Taste Matters Personally, I’ve always found Basa to be tasteless, which makes it easier for me to decline. Yet globally, it’s a success, thanks to its affordable price and acceptance in markets like the USA, Europe, and even the UAE, which have stringent testing & quality standards. Now, the real question: How are Indian consumers reacting to Basa? Does it work for repeat orders, especially among fish lovers, who—like red meat lovers—are extremely particular about quality and taste? In buffets, Basa might work because it’s economical and versatile. But does it hold up in a la carte menus, where customers expect standout flavor? Chefs and restaurant owners, what’s your take? How does Basa perform in your menus? Speaking of Basa brings in the topic of glazing, should we dive into that sometime...? #HORECA #ChefLife #SeafoodQuality #MenuMatters #BasaDebate #ConsumerInsights
