Happy National Dog Day! 🐶⚓ To help celebrate, we're outlining 5 essential safety tips for bringing your four-legged first mate aboard a boat: 1️⃣ Get a canine life vest A canine personal flotation device (PFD) is essential. You can find them at almost all pet shops and marine supply stores. 2️⃣ Train your dog to swim Before taking them along, we recommend getting your dog comfortable with water, even if you don’t plan for them to leave the boat. 3️⃣ Provide shade and drinking water To prevent your dog from overheating, stock your boat with plenty of fresh water and allow them to sit in a shaded area to escape the sun’s heat. 4️⃣ Train your dog to reboard the boat from the water Your dog needs a safe way to get back on the boat. Practice a reboarding procedure until they get the hang of it. 5️⃣ Assess weather conditions Check the weather ahead of time and re-assess the day-of. Rain, heavy wind, and/or choppy seas aren’t ideal conditions for boating with your dog. #BoatClass #NationalDogDay #Boating #Safety
