Making decisions about the choice of secondary schools for our wards to attend after primary education usually comes with a hurricane of anxiety, apprehension, fear, indecision and a plethora of not very positive emotions🙀 Can you relate? I am breathing a sigh of relief because I have crossed that bridge🏃🏼♀️➡️ However, I am still in the field supporting younger parents to make that decision. What considerations would be crucial for you? How well do you know your child? What are their strengths and improvements areas? How social or reserved are they? How confident are they to speak up or defend themselves? How emotionally stable are they? On the flip side, what values and culture does the school of your choice promote? How important is safeguarding to them? What do parents whose children went there say? Do you know children who attended there and what was their experience? How grounded are they in delivering their chosen curriculum and does it align with your expectations? The list is endless……………. On Saturday, we had our annual Edufair and hosted over 25 secondary schools across the country. I wonder what parents took away from their presentations to enable them make this important decision🤔 What would you consider?

Community is invited to join a new Burnie Works Action Group for the Middle Years Project. Last year, Communities for Children Burnie and Burnie Works explored how families of primary school-aged children access and navigate supports in Burnie. The aim: to co-design a product or service to meet community needs. We call it the Middle Years project. It is for families with children aged 5 to 12 years (Prep to Year 6). 🔸NEXT STEP: Build an Action Group to help guide us as we move into the next stage - turning your ideas into reality! We are holding a 'Come and Try' workshop on Thursday 7 March. This will give you a chance to come and see what it's about. It will be an opportunity to dip your toes in and see if it’s right for you – no pressure. 🔸DETAILS🔸 📆When: Thursday 7 March ⏰Time: 10am to 1pm 🏠Location: Burnie Surf Life Saving Club Facilitated by Fiona Miller, grassroots worker, and facilitator. Yummy morning tea. Safe and welcoming space. We have $100,000 to create something that the community wants and has designed. We will trial and test this work and collect the data to inform change for the future. Imagine if we design something here in Burnie that changes people’s lives, and we get to keep it going! If it doesn’t work as we thought we learn from this experience, and we try again! We get to say what success looks like for us. We need community to lead the way. Let us know if you can make it - use the registration link below. https://lnkd.in/g9qsZebz Learn about the Middle Years Project https://lnkd.in/gp_6Q2RV Read the Middle Years Report 2023 https://lnkd.in/gbdasFyj #burnie #middleyears #codesign #shareddecisionmaking #collectiveimpact
