We’re hiring for a couple of roles, and the response has been nothing short of amazing. The calibre of applicants is the highest I’ve ever seen. While I’d love to credit it all to the hard work we’ve put into building our brand, it’s clear the current job market for designers is incredibly tough. Freelancers, those recently made redundant, and seasoned pros with 10+ years of experience are all in the running, competing for new opportunities. If you’re a designer struggling to land that next role, here are 3 ways to help you stand out from the crowd: 1️⃣ Showcase versatility: Don’t just talk about your skills, show them! Make sure your portfolio highlights different styles, mediums, and industries. 2️⃣ Demonstrate collaboration: Design is a team effort. Highlight how you’ve worked with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients to achieve success – collaboration is key. 3️⃣ Tailor your approach: Too many people are sending the same application to every company. Surprisingly these are the same people who are 'struggling to land a new role'. Personalise your approach for each brand – it will get you noticed. #designer #hiring

Don’t work as a Graphic Designer in a Software Company… …unless you are not very keen on growing as a digital artist. From my experience, I’ve always felt that your career as a professional can only grow when you contribute to the core offering of a company (except for some support functions). If you work as a creative professional in an engineering firm, you are surrounded by engineers who appreciate even a small degree of creative work, and you tend to reach a point of stagnation. There’s no one to challenge your creative abilities, and no clear career path. In contrast, if you work in an agency, you are in an environment where creative thinking and conceptual execution are central. You are surrounded by like-minded artists and seniors who have been through the same journey. They can guide you, understand how you think and feel, and constantly push you to grow. You never feel stagnant when your creativity is continuously challenged. In a creative agency, designers get to work on diverse projects, receive feedback from peers who understand the nuances of design, and have clear growth pathways. Be an engineer in an engineering company, be an artist in a creative agency, be a recruiter in a staffing agency. Be a drop of water in a river, and a drop of oil in a fuel tank. Don’t get mixed...
