"It's bloody tough," says Peter Walsh, the co-founder of Bodriggy Brewing Company, on the state of Australia's craft beer sector. As David Adams reports, more than a dozen high-profile craft brewers have collapsed in the past 18 months, souring optimism in a sector that seemed ready to thrive after pandemic shutdowns. Richard Abraham, director of DBA Advisory, says "issues specific to this industry that are that are creating strong headwinds," including the higher cost of living which is making it harder for households to spend on discretionary goods like craft beer. Other factors like excise hikes in the latest budget have also added to the sector's woes, according to Kylie Lethbridge, CEO of Independent Brewers Association.
