New report illustrates first milestones for responsible water management in Ica, Peru: SIFAV and its partners have just published their mid-term project report on collaborative action for responsible water management in the Ica, Peru. The Ica valley is considered the cradle of Peruvian agro-export and produces blueberries, citrus, grapes, asparagus, and avocados for the world market. 🫐🍋🍇🥑   The Water Stewardship Project that was kicked off in 2023, led by SIFAV in collaboration with WRAP, implementing partner Good Stuff International and many key players in the fresh produce sector in Peru and Europe. The programme is committed to protecting and improving forests, the climate, human rights, and farmers’ livelihoods. They do this at farm level by promoting sustainable and regenerative farming and ensuring that certified farms provide safe and fair working conditions for their workers. For companies, they encourage responsible business practices and transparency from farm to shelf, helping build stronger supply chains, strengthen consumer loyalty, and achieve sustainability goals."   She added: "Many ingredients can be certified by Rainforest Alliance such as coffee, bananas, flowers, herbs & spices, nuts, fruits and many others. To figure out if you’re buying sustainably farmed fish, look at the species in addition to the country of origin. For example, Chinook salmon from New Zealand is raised responsibly, according to Seafood Watch. You should generally avoid farm-raised Atlantic salmon from Canada, Chile, Norway or Scotland, according to the program. But it is an increasingly precious resource 💧 To protect water both in- and outside our breweries, we have set ambitious targets to achieve world-leading water efficiency and to replenish water in areas with high water risk. We are making strong progress towards our targets. Globally in 2023, our breweries achieved a 31% reduction in water use since 2015, and we have established several new partnerships with NGOs to help us reach our target to replenish all the water we consume. Our partners focus on producing, processing, and consuming seafood responsibly, ensuring that everyone understands the importance of using food wisely and minimizing waste. 🎯 Our Approach: Zero Waste Philosophy: We are committed to making food that is not only healthy but also produced with minimal waste. Three Main Goals: 1️⃣ Innovative Research: Developing new and creative ways to utilize parts of the catch that would usually be discarded. 2️⃣ Regulatory Updates: Improving the rules and systems that govern sustainable seafood production. 3️⃣ Education and Awareness: Ensuring that people, especially younger generations, understand how to use marine resources wisely and avoid waste.
