It’s the start of #QueenslandWalksMonth, which encourages everyone to make walking a part of their daily routine. I love to walk – I do it almost every day with my dogs, colleagues, friends, family and or just by myself to get some me time. Walking is good for our bodies, it’s good for our minds and it’s good for our soul! But recently I’ve been thinking a lot about who gets to walk, roll or stroll in the spaces around us. Poor health is often the result of people living in environments or situations that don’t support healthy habits. And with only half of Australian adults getting enough physical activity, it’s clear more needs to be done to reclaim our spaces and our time to move. This #QueenslandWalksMonth, I promise to keep walking with my mind open to how I can make it easier for others to walk, roll or stroll – and I invite you to do the same. Here are some ideas to get us all started: * Keep the footpaths clear of obstacles including bins and e-scooters * Invite others on walking dates to get you both moving * Have your shoes ready at any time to walk just in case you get a chance at the last minute * Consider your work meetings to see if one can be converted into a walking meeting * Introduce a daily #HourOfPower to your workplace that gives employees the scheduled time to switch off and move (we have this Health and Wellbeing Queensland and it’s excellent) * Sign up to the free 10,000 Steps program and form a team to keep each other motivated If you have ideas on how to support this #QueenslandWalksMonth, I’d love to hear them!

For all of you hard workers out there… it’s Workaholics Day tomorrow. You know what that means. It’s time to REST. As we celebrate the 4th of July, let’s focus on something we ALL need: balance. For those of us living with chronic illnesses, balancing both a career and life responsibilities is like walking a tightrope over a canyon. Every step requires great care and effort. But I want you to remember this: you deserve rest, AND the necessary accommodations to feel supported at work. Here are two tips to help you find that balance: 1️⃣ Communicate Your Needs: Be open with your employer about your health. Setting clear boundaries can help create a more manageable workload. 2️⃣ Make Time for You: Schedule breaks throughout your day to recharge. Whether it's a few minutes of stretching or a quiet moment with a good book, small acts of self-care can make a big difference.
