French AI summit to focus on environmental impact of energy-hungry tech. The event will push for greater transparency and aims to rank AI firms in terms of ability to meet climate goals. Rating artificial intelligence companies in terms of their ecological impact is among the proposals under consideration, while other areas being looked at include the effect on the labour market, giving all countries access to the technology, and bringing more states under the wing of global AI governance initiatives. https://zurl.co/TNJQ

Representatives across industry, academia, civil society, and UN agencies, from over 70 countries, will convene in Geneva today to officially kick off the AI for Good Global Summit 2024. The KT4D project sees this event as an excellent opportunity to discuss #Democracy and #AI with diverse global speakers from #public and #private sectors exploring how democracy is evolving with new #Technologies. The event will feature many European representatives, emphasising Europe's pioneering AI Act and its impact on democracy, as discussed in KT4D's policy brief and article series on AI and democracy.
