𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐎 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 🧱✨ LEGO is amazing for kids’ math and problem-solving skills, yet it’s often marketed as a “boys’ toy.” But here’s the thing—why should only boys get to build, solve, and create with these kinds of toys? Every year, when people ask what to buy for my daughter Rose’s birthday, I say LEGO. Not dolls, not makeup kits, but something that builds her skills and confidence. Because it’s not just about toys—it’s about potential. Research shows that play like this can set kids up for skills they’ll use their whole lives. And for girls, especially, it’s about saying: You can build, create, and solve anything you set your mind to. So here’s to more girls building with LEGO…and to a future where we let all kids explore their potential, no labels attached. 🚀 Okay, but serious question—do you put LEGO on display, or pack it back in the box? 😆

🚂 Why Playing with Toy Trains is So Much More Than Fun! 🚂 Toy trains aren’t just a source of entertainment—they’re incredible learning tools that help children develop important skills while having fun! Here’s what your child can gain from playing with a simple train set: 🧠 Problem-Solving: Building tracks and figuring out how to make the train move from station to station helps kids think critically and solve problems. 🤝 Social Skills: When playing with friends, children practice sharing, taking turns, and working together, all of which foster cooperation and communication. 🖐️ Fine Motor Skills: Connecting tracks, moving trains, and handling small pieces strengthen hand-eye coordination and dexterity. 🌍 Imagination & Storytelling: Toy trains can take kids on any adventure their imagination dreams up—boosting their creativity and storytelling abilities. 👨🏫 Basic Physics: Through play, kids learn how speed, movement, and actions lead to reactions, giving them an early understanding of cause-and-effect principles. Playing with toy trains offers a world of learning opportunities that go far beyond the tracks. It’s a fun and educational journey every time! 🚂✨ #LearningThroughPlay #ChildDevelopment #ToyTrains #ImaginationInAction #PlayAndLearn

Case Study Showcase ✨ Have you ever felt unmotivated to achieve the goals you've set for yourself? 🤔 This has been a problem I have personally been struggling with for a while now. It always seemed like I would fall short in long-term tasks I've given myself in comparison to my completion of tasks with external motivation. This was something that was heavy on my mind when I was given the broad assignment of creating a BINGO-style app in my interactive design class during undergrad. So now I would like to go through the steps of how I designed this app to make every day better. White paper research: ✏65% of people achieve their goals when making them public. ✏95% of people achieve their goals when they have someone to keep them accountable. Using this knowledge I wanted to leverage this to design an app where users are able to complete the goals they set out for themselves. Behold Bingo Bliss 😌 To find out more about Bingo Bliss and what else this app does head to my portfolio website for more info! 😁 https://lnkd.in/gqVZ8KrA https://lnkd.in/gKX3RxDR

Just spent the morning at the from Boardroom to Sandpit Workshop, and wow, what a great time! We got to play with LEGO, chat about Play Schema and Play Personalities, and discover how a little fun can seriously boost productivity and creativity. Turns out, I’ve got a lot more play in my life than I realised! 🎉 For me, play is all about that joyful state of mind - whether I am designing a website at work, or singing and dancing as I bring a campaign to life... I’m a mix of The Director and The Creative as Play Personalities, (with a dash of Transformative, Construction, and Connection Schemas thrown in too). Plus I won a prize for a play evaluation at work - how cool is that? 🏆 If you haven’t explored play in your life and work yet, now’s the time to dive in and have some fun! A big thank you to Dr. Sarah Aiono from Longworth Education (right here in Hawke's Bay!) for my awesome prize, and the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce for putting this great workshop on. Pictured: 1. Me with Dr Sarah Aiono 2. my depiction of OMG Solutions and what this looks like as LEGO - bringing clients visions to life from their business to the screen... 3. Some ideas of what play is and yes, the bullets are meant to be a little skew wiff, just for fun! 😉 #PlayfulWorkplace #CreativityUnleashed #JoyInWork #PlayAndProductivity

Making Sight Words Fun with Ziingo! As a special educator, I'm always looking for engaging ways to help my students master sight words. That's why I love the ThinkFun Zingo Sight Words Game! This award-winning game, found on Amazon, makes learning sight words a blast for pre-K to 2nd graders. Here's why I love Ziingo: Engaging gameplay: Students race to find sight words on their Zingo cards. It's a fun twist on Bingo that keeps them motivated. Variety of levels: The game comes with multiple word lists, so you can easily adjust the difficulty to fit each student's needs. Multi-sensory learning: Students see, hear, and say the sight words as they play, reinforcing learning in multiple ways. Perfect for small groups or independent practice: Ziingo can be played with a small group of students or used for independent practice. In the picture, you can see one of my students having a blast learning sight words with Ziingo! She's so focused and engaged, and I love seeing her excitement as she masters new words. If you're looking for a fun and effective way to help your students learn sight words, I highly recommend checking out Ziingo! #SpecialEducation #SightWords #LearningThroughPlay #ThinkFun #Ziingo Have you tried Ziingo with your students? 🛠️ If you could instantly master a new skill, what would it be and why? For me, it’s plastering walls! I’ve got a knack for DIY, but plastering? That’s a whole different ball game. How do they even get it on the wall and keep it there? 😂 What about you? Whether it’s something practical like DIY or something completely different, I’d love to know - drop your dream skill in the comments! Let’s see what everyone’s working on (or wishing for). #NewSkills #DIYGoals #AlwaysLearning
