Kicking off Construction Inclusion Week, we’re proud to join our industry peers in raising awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the construction industry. This week, general contractors, specialty contractors, trade partners, and suppliers will unite to drive progress toward a more inclusive workforce. At Dome Construction, inclusivity is woven into our core values. To reinforce this, we have a month-long challenge focused on Construction Inclusion Week’s themes, starting with Commitment and Accountability. Creating a culture of belonging requires leadership and accountability from everyone, regardless of role. Each day has a unique theme that we have aligned with our longstanding H&W Values & Ways! Day 1: Commitment & Accountability - To be a true leader, you must encourage, listen carefully and be a model of behavior. Day 2: Belonging - Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Supplier Diversity 🎉 Day 3 Construction Inclusion Week Supplier diversity is vital in construction because it brings new perspectives, fosters innovation, and supports economic growth within underrepresented communities. By partnering with diverse suppliers, construction companies can access a broader range of products and solutions, creating a more resilient and competitive supply chain. It’s not just about meeting quotas; it’s about building a more inclusive industry that reflects the communities we serve. Construction Inclusion Week (Oct 14th–18th, 2024), a powerful reminder of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the construction industry. On Indigenous Peoples' Day, I shared a message about honoring the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous communities. As a minority-owned business, I deeply believe in the value of diversity, and I know firsthand how it strengthens our workplace and society. But our work doesn’t stop with one day. It continues through sustained action—listening, learning, and creating spaces for all voices to be heard. Construction Inclusion Week is about exactly that: making sure the construction industry leads the way in promoting equity, safety, and inclusion for all workers, regardless of background. It’s a time to reflect on how we, as an industry, can continue breaking down barriers and building a future where everyone can thrive. Let’s use this week to strengthen our commitment to inclusion—not just in words, but in action. "Workplace Culture" has been one of the driving factors behind my staying or leaving an organization. Today is Day 4 of Construction Inclusion Week! 🫱🏽🫲🏻🎉💪🏻 Workplace culture is essential to women in construction because it can impact their job satisfaction, safety, and career advancement. "When you go to a job and see another woman, it's a big relief. Often, a tradeswoman will find she is the only woman on a job site. Twenty-two percent of respondents to the CWIT survey had never worked with another woman. Isolation, when experienced within a hostile workplace culture, can add to a woman's fear of harassment and assault." Christi and I talk about this with our guest on Women Talk Construction. So workplace culture matters greatly to me. My family work team at Hill Electric is AMAZING. The workplace culture attracts and retains. Their actions show they respect and value us. All of us. They don't allow for disrespect from anyone. They encourage and create opportunities for open communication. They celebrate EVERYONE. 📸 Two of my co-workers, Travis & Brandon. Travis (12 years at HEC) and Brandon (3 years at HEC).
