Reflecting on Sustainable Urban Mobility Achievements in Dar es Salaam! 🌟 As the SOLUTIONSplus project comes to a close, we look back with pride on our significant advancements in promoting sustainable urban mobility in Dar es Salaam: 🚀 Collaborative Feasibility Assessment developed for electrifying three-wheelers. 📄 Policy Paper on E-Mobility Strategies in Tanzania 📈 National Urban Mobility Policies and Investments (NUMP) framework tailored for Tanzania. 🚗 Deployment of 43 electric three-wheelers in Dar es Salaam, including 25 by TRI and 12 by Eko Globe. 🚏 Electric three-wheelers now serve as feeder vehicles for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. 🔧 Assembly and retrofitting of 6 vehicles by DIT/Auto Truck and Sustainable Energy Services Company (SESCOM). 🚴♀️ Introduction of 16 pedal-assist electric bicycles, with 5 extra batteries. 🇪🇺 Preparing for follow-up initiatives with the EU Delegation in Tanzania and participation in the EU R&D eBRT2030 project. My senior George Njenga . You have raised very valid concerns. As someone who has been engaged with county govt and national in the last 10 years at policy and planning phases there are factors that contribute to this: 1. National govt implements projects in mashinani, in some of these projects, little is done by way of public participation. They are lobbied for by MPs and pple in executive (PSs and CSs)and they are implemented unilaterally. No cohesion or coordination with counties. Governor Ochillo Ayako recently gave an example of a market designed from Nairobi being implemented in a locality just few kilometres from one that County govt had just built, while other places don't have, just because an MP in his county had lobbied for it. 2. Secondly, these projects are designed with no input of the locals. Proposals done to donors with solutions that isn't compatible with the local population. Donors design projects in Nairobi hoping to implement them in some place like West Pokot. 3. Govt replicate projects. Eg. The Aggregation parks in 47 counties. Govt assumed there were no existing Industrial and Aggregation parks in counties and therefore funding similar projects thinking they will succeed. I can tell you in the next 3 years, half of those places will be cob webbed warehouses and halls. 4. At the county level, counties do not generally visualize huge projects that can offer employment solutions and create wealth. So they end up with flag ship projects incomplete, because of corruption or personal interest. eg. budget for a Kshs.100 Million project being done for 5 years, by that time over 4 or 5 contractors have handled the same project 5. We like brick and mortar more than software. Eg. A county govt investing in a dairy plant or milling plant while they haven't sensitized the farmers and known where the primary product will come from.

And the new ones are the industrial parks at county level
