The cake is a visual metaphor for your organisation (or country or society etc.) The icing on top is the image created on the outside, often for others to see. The green segment represents those who are favoured, while the purple segment is the minority group, often discriminated in various ways and intensity. The black shaded layer on top of both segments represents, the elites, from both segments. How does your cake look ?

The Cookout is where Black people can feel safe and free to 'be' without the need to be concerned about white people's emotional safety, approval, or how they perceive us. It is the opportunity to gather, commune, and release in joy, dance, music, laughter, and Black family. It is where we catch up/gossip, celebrate each other's accomplishments, welcome those home from being locked up or those visting or returning home for other reasons, and where we pour liquor or other libations on the ground for those who died too soon. Here is a good place to seek approval for or introduce new people into the fold because it is only one of a few sacred Black spaces. I don't like strawberries. I know, I know...what's wrong with me. I want to like them because they are so beautiful, but I just don't – never have. I also have never liked Bruce Springsteen. Nothing against the guy, but I'm just not a fan of his music. We are all entitled to our opinions, and these are not even topics that matter. What I don't get is sh*++*ng on others preferences. Why isn't leaving everyone be, the standard? We can coexist, and even celebrate each other, while liking what we like. Let's make more space for each other rather than drawing lines. As I commented on Shane Arthur's post yesterday, let's build less fences and build larger tables instead. There is so much beauty in our differences, and we can better celebrate that rather than sh*+ on it. It's okay if you love strawberries while I dislike them.
