I had a great interview last week. There was a cougar. It brought me joy. 😂 This team in the interview said I had to make sure I took a picture with the cougar before I left the building, so I did with pride! One of the reasons I'm being particular before choosing another position is that I am truly looking for a philosophical shift in my next career path. With the amount of time a person spends their life working, I do feel it's important to invest that time wisely. Along those lines, I've been making the rounds with truly amazing groups of people who are very passionate about their missions. It has been fun meeting such amazingly dynamic teams, even if I haven't found the final landing spot yet. I love tech. I love teams that unequivocally care about what they do. I'm not looking for the size of the paycheck. I'm not looking for a large equity cut. I'm not looking for a huge title. I'm just looking for joy shared with cool people who want to build cool things that put even more joy into the world. So here is a cougar. If a potential client immediately makes you think, “oh! this person is going to be a problem”, you’re right. 4. Babies don’t have any jobs or responsibilities, but still will wake up at 430 AM! 5. That dream opportunity is on the other side of your ‘ask’.

A nod to a new life: ☀️ I’m thinking about the past. Six years ago this week, I was told I’d be laid off. It was the second and last layoff of my former career. I started my first content design position a few months later. Looking back, this was one of the most consequential weeks of my life. It’s interesting how nudges can push us in new directions. I had no idea where a career change would lead me. I’m evolving each day. But I’ve been fortunate. I’ve come to understand this: Reinvention is possible. Believe. A few years ago, I wrote an essay about leaving a familiar life and finding lessons in new beginnings. I’ve thought about the consequences of evolution and how much I’ve changed in the past 6 years. I resonate less and less with the person I used to be. But I try to hold onto pieces of the past and remember, especially around this time of year. Maybe you’re considering a different career. Maybe you’re in the early stages of a new life. Whatever the case may be, trust yourself. That belief will take you far. Today Rounds Up The End Of Small Business Month Today Is Also National Smile Day Everyone is different and the things that make us smile will vary as well. This video speaks a little on how Plated Traditions came to be and the organization that made it all happen. Unfortunately, this organization has been defunct for a few years now but the thought of my experiences still have the power to make smile. Some may cry out "Why!" through squint eyes. And with a smile akin to Mona Lisa's I can reply: Yes it has been a strange and trying time but I managed to keep and acquire just as much in this time than I had lost or thought that I would lose. And while I cannot lie. If I had my rathers, I would've just been left peacefully alone to go to work and do my job without incident. But I believe in parallels. I believe in the propensity and probability of outcomes to be altered. The chains of events that I experienced introduced to me the precise timing and opportunity needed to become Plated Traditions. I can smile because almost 10 years ago I obtained employment with my current employer after a mass layoff. I can smile because roughly 8 years ago my employer introduced me to UnboundRVA (Now defunct). I can smile because throughout the process my employer allowed me to pursue this opportunity while allowing me to keep my employment even through a worldwide anomaly. If the timing was off UnboundRVA would've just been another one of those opportunities that I missed out on. An imagining rather than a memory.
