I am excited to share my new ballet for #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek2024 "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" en pointe Part 1. "My Way Is Ballet" - "A ballet a day keeps mental illness away". To celebrate this week I will share a new ballet each day highlighting some of its many benefits for #mental and #physical health, and we know that the two are inseparable. Ballet has helped me a lot to stay centered, #healthy, and #happy in challenging times. The theme of this year's Mental Illness Awareness Week is "Mental Health at #Work". An idea I have expressed previously is why not include ballet classes at work similar to a gym and yoga classes for your employees? Ballet's benefits are due not only to the #dance but also the #music and we know that music and #sound have many #healing properties for #mental and #physical health. Today I wish to highlight the positive effect of ballet on #learning and #memory. I first became a member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), more specifically NAMI Chicago, in 2000 when I worked at The Psychiatric Institute at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), as some LinkedIn connections from there know, on the #neurobiology of #depression, #bipolardisorder, and #schizophrenia, and trained in clinical #psychiatry. My impression is that they, as an organization at work, did a lot to raise awareness of mental illness and promote mental health! #ballet #movementismedicine #mentalhealth #mentalillness #wellness #resilience #stressmanagement #positivepsychiatry
