A wise man once told me: if you’re not crapping your pants, you’re not doing the right thing. At the time, we were talking about buying a house, but we have since discussed this idea in the context of career, too. Two months into my role at Truth Tree, I’m learning new things every single day. I was pretty comfortable at my last job. I was above average at what I did, but I was struggling with what opportunities existed for continued growth. I served on committees, led task forces, and oversaw Strategic Plan Implementation. Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Yesterday, I tackled something completely new—so new that it made me quite literally queasy. But that was precisely why I took the leap from school marcomm director to digital marketing firm: I wanted to be outside my comfort zone more. Today, I definitely was. And I loved it 🙂 Here’s to embracing the nerves, the unknown, and the moments that make us better. #GrowthMindset #IndependentSchoolMarketing

I still remember the first campaign I ever ran. I gave it everything I had hours of research, late nights, double-checking every detail. I thought, “𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈!” But it wasn’t. The campaign flopped. The results were nowhere near what I had hoped for. I felt like I had failed not just the campaign, but myself. What I didn’t know back then? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱. Here’s what I learned: 1️⃣ It’s okay to make mistakes. 2️⃣ Every campaign, even the bad ones, teaches you something. 3️⃣ Success isn’t about being perfect—it’s about keeping at it. Now, after 7+ years in digital marketing, I’ve realized that every setback made me better. Those tough moments taught me how to listen, adapt, and connect with people in a real way. If you’re struggling with something right now, just remember: It’s not the end. Learn from it, grow from it, and keep going. What’s one lesson you’ve learned from a tough moment in your career? I’d love to hear your story. 👇 . . . #DigitalMarketing #GrowthMindset #LessonsLearned #Resilience #muhammadalidigitalmarketer #malidigitalmarketer #mali

Some career paths are linear—mine has been anything but. And that’s exactly what makes it powerful. After more than a decade in merchandising, I found myself at a crossroads during a major life transition. Returning to work after maternity leave with my second child, I felt the pull to do something completely different. Something that challenged me and aligned with my evolving passions. They say your brain undergoes huge changes during matrescence, and for me, this shift was one of the ways those transformations came to life. I decided to pivot into marketing, a role that felt like both a departure and a natural extension of my skills. To make it happen, I had to truly sell myself, proving that my experience in understanding customer behavior, analyzing trends, and creating strategies could translate to a new discipline. I dove into both organic and paid social AND email marketing, half-time in each role. Since making the leap, I’ve had the privilege of shaping marketing strategies and campaigns for brands like Hammacher Schlemmer, Sittercity, and Chief. What I’ve learned is that the most meaningful growth happens when we embrace change and step into the unknown with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to learn. Looking back, the pivot wasn’t just a career move—it was a defining moment. It taught me the value of trusting my instincts and leaning into opportunities that challenge me. And it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best paths are the ones we create for ourselves.

Do you remember the excitement of your first rollercoaster ride? The nervousness and anticipation climbing that first hill, and the sheer exhilaration of the drop, and reveling in every twist and turn before returning to the station? What a ride it's been to build a career that I loved at the most amazing media cluster in Philadelphia with growth, friendships, challenges, and success waiting around every curve. Since my early 20s, I've been able to indulge my creative and entrepreneurial aspirations from my start in promotions to pioneering a successful digital sales department from scratch, and continuously learning from those around me. It’s a lot to run at full speed for that long, and as a gift to myself, I chose a brief hiatus to recharge my soul. I indulged in sunrises at the beach, long walks with my dog, lunches and dinners with friends I haven’t seen in far too long, a luxurious spa day, and home improvement projects that have been on the back burner and are now complete. One could get used to that life! But I’m ready to jump back in and leverage all I’ve learned about media, digital, marketing, and branding to propel another company to new heights. And I’m excited! New chapters are fun and fulfilling, and my energized soul can’t wait to make a meaningful impact again. It seems like I just got off the ride, but I'm back in line for the rollercoaster, and I can't wait for the thrill that awaits me. If you know of a brand seeking a creative marketing exec or a digital agency aiming to expand and flourish, please consider me for exciting opportunities ahead. #newbeginnings #grateful #lifeissweet #marketing #digital #digitalmarketing #branding #media

17 years ago, I was just a novice social media manager with a basic understanding of the marketing landscape. Fast forward to today, I am now the Vice President of Global Marketing. Here's what I learned through my journey: Lesson 1: Perseverance pays off In the early days, I made it a habit to stay updated and keep learning. Despite innumerable roadblocks or detours, I identified opportunities and took the initiative. The major difference between then and now is my expanded skillset and experience. Lesson 2: Start small, Dream Big Initially, I only was in charge of social. Now, I lead the marketing communications team, overseeing content, social media, advertising, email, the website, and design, and we've built and executed successful marketing campaigns for San Francisco. While that may seem like a lot, I have a great team, and my number one duty is to be their biggest cheerleader. Lesson 3: Prioritize Long-term Goals In the beginning, I sacrificed leisure and rest to develop my skills or take on projects that were outside of social media. Many probably considered it absurd. But, 14 years later at San Francisco Travel, I've achieved a leadership role, and now I am helping others figure out their path. Lesson 4: Embrace your Weaknesses (and know you aren't always right) I used to be insecure about my lack of experience in people management. I feared I wouldn't succeed because of it. It took me time to understand that these insecurities only hindered my progress. And that I needed to lean into discomfort, the unknown, to really see growth in developing my skills and my team. Lesson 5: Chart your own Path Post-graduation, many people typically settle for a safe job. However, I chose a different path with social media, and it made a difference. Remember, the road less traveled often leads to the greatest successes. Have you encountered similar lessons on your career path?

I initially chose this industry driven by my passion for digital and performance marketing. It was a calling that resonated deeply with me. But over the years, my career took on a new shape, expanding into creative strategy and brand communications. And it was fulfilling to some extent, especially when it came to learning from communications leaders within the space. Yet, recently, it feels as if the universe is calling me back to my roots, reminding me of the path I started on. This journey has encouraged me to realign with my original vision in digital marketing. It's a humbling realisation to feel that the career you chose from passion still holds deeper layers of fulfilment. It's remarkable how life aligns, even when doubt sneaks in. Sometimes, the journey forward is also a return to what inspired us in the first place. Today, I am grateful, not just for the rediscovery, but for the patience and the wisdom that comes with waiting, reflecting, and re-envisioning my path. I’m a professional that chooses digital and performance marketing as my paths. How about you? #DigitalMarketing #PerformanceMarketing #Marketing #Passion

Embarking on my journey in the marketing field was both thrilling and challenging. It was a leap of faith that introduced me to a myriad of experiences, but let me share a pivotal moment that tested my resolve. When I was tasked with a major campaign, our team encountered unexpected hurdles: shifting market trends and a tight deadline. Instead of backing down, we huddled together, brainstormed innovative solutions, and pivoted our strategy quickly. This adaptability not only salvaged the project but also led to an unexpectedly powerful outcome—engagement rates soared beyond our initial projections. This experience taught me the importance of teamwork and adaptability in overcoming challenges. It’s about embracing change rather than resisting it. If you’re facing obstacles in your path, remember: the ability to pivot can transform setbacks into stepping stones. Keep pushing forward, stay connected with your team, and be open to new ideas. You've got this! 💪✨
