A lot has to happen in order to build a 290,000 SF school! For the past four months, the crew at our Hampstead, NC jobsite has been hard at work surcharging the building pad for the new Pender County K8 School. This 30-acre site presented a challenge with its soft, blue clay soil extending 10-20 feet below subgrade. To ensure the future school is secure and stable, the team has been compacting the land by importing an average of 3,000 cubic yards of dirt per day from an off-site pit. The team at Civil Works, Inc. recently started excavating on-site, and is moving around 1,000 cubic yards of dirt per day! Now that the weight of the #surcharge is equivalent to the weight of the future building, we let it sit for around three more months before removal. #ProjectUpdate #BuiltWithPurpose #BordeauxConstruction Pender County Schools - Moseley Architects - WithersRavenel - S&ME
