Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., the Chief Medical Officer of Bosley Medical Group was interviewed by @bestlifeonline for their article "10 Anti-Aging Products Every Man Should Know About." 👨⚕️💬 "I've seen firsthand how a full head of hair can take 10-20 years off a man's face and how a receding hairline can do the exact opposite," Ken Washenik, MD, PhD, dermatologist and Chief Medical Officer at Bosley, tells Best Life. "Hair loss is a gradual process—once it starts, it continues, often at an increasingly rapid pace. It's best (and most cost-effective) to help prevent hair loss before it happens rather than wait until it's gone." Depending on the stage of hair loss, you'll need different products. If you're taking preventive steps, go for the BosleyMD line, which has "supplemental and medical hair products, including shampoos, conditioners, topicals, and supplements" that you can add to your personal maintenance routine. If you've already started to show signs, Washenik recommends the BosleyRx line, which offers prescription topical and oral medications, as well as the Revitalizer Low-Level Laser Therapy Cap, which "uses low-level lasers for laser therapy for hair loss." Many people believe that Hard water or Dietary deficiencies such as that of Biotin is the main cause of their Patterned Hair thinning, leading them to overlook early treatment for AGA (Androgenetic Alopecia or Patterned Baldness). This common misconception can delay effective intervention, making it harder to manage the condition as it progresses. When Androgenetic alopecia is treated early, we can often save hair follicles and prevent further loss. However, as baldness advances, the roots become thinner and less responsive to treatment, which can ultimately lead to complete root loss. Unfortunately, this condition doesn’t have a permanent cure, so starting treatment early is crucial. Don’t rely on quick fixes like hair oils, massages, or onion juice to address this issue. Instead, visit a Dermatologist who can provide you with the best management strategies, including specialized hair serums, oral medications, and advanced treatments. Taking early action is key to preserving your hair and achieving the best results. Disclaimer The content provided on this page is purely for informational purposes. What's Hot In Hair Loss Treatments? PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) By Dr. Lazuk, Chief Dermatologist and CEO of Dr. Lazuk Esthetics® | Cosmetics® Many women are looking for innovative ways to address hair loss—a concern that’s often overlooked in discussions about beauty and wellness. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections have gained remarkable traction as a natural and effective treatment for thinning hair. As someone who’s closely followed its evolution and clinical applications, I wanted to explore PRP in detail, highlighting its benefits, potential risks, and the essential questions you should ask when considering this treatment. What Is PRP and How Does It Work? PRP involves drawing a small amount of your blood, processing it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, and injecting this concentrated plasma into your scalp. The idea is to harness the healing and regenerative properties of platelets to stimulate dormant hair follicles, encourage new growth, and improve the thickness and health of existing hair. If you're experiencing hair thinning or loss, it’s essential to explore safe and effective treatment options. One such option is minoxidil, a topical medication that can promote hair growth. However, it’s crucial to understand that minoxidil is a medical product that should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. What is Minoxidil? Originally developed to treat high blood pressure, minoxidil is now widely used to combat androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) in both men and women. How Does it Work? Minoxidil works by increasing blood flow to hair follicles, stimulating them and encouraging hair regrowth. Why You Should Consult a Dermatologist: Personalized Assessment: Hair loss can have various underlying causes. A dermatologist can help determine the most appropriate treatment for your specific situation. Proper Use: A healthcare professional will provide guidance on how to use minoxidil effectively and monitor for any potential side effects. Comprehensive Care: Your dermatologist can recommend a holistic approach to hair health, which may include lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and other treatments. Take the Next Step: If you're concerned about hair loss, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with a dermatologist. They can help you understand your options and tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs. Have questions about hair loss treatments? Comment below or reach out for more information! The article discusses the optimal shower duration as per dermatologists and the impact of showering habits on skin health. It highlights that while long, hot showers can feel rejuvenating, they may contribute to skin dryness. A study by Dove found that nearly half of the participants spend the most time showering or bathing during their beauty routine, and a majority of Brits experience dry skin, often attributing it to their showering practices. * Dermatologist Emma Amoafo-Mensah explains that long showers in hot water can remove the skin’s natural oils, leading to Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL), which causes skin tightness and dryness. Additionally, using harsh scrubs or cleansing products can exacerbate skin dryness. The article also addresses the question of whether it’s okay to shower without soap. Dr. Ross Perry, a medical director, emphasizes that water alone is insufficient for cleaning as it cannot remove dirt, bacteria, and germs that cling to the skin’s natural oils. *The article suggests that the ideal shower time should be less than ten minutes ( < 10 Min.) to prevent skin irritation and maintain skin health, especially since many Londoners report dry skin due to prolonged showering. In many places, I observed many people ( all genders ) spend at least an hour to two, proudly, in the bathroom under water and chemical cleaning fluids/ creams along with rubbing scrubs !

The urge to pop spots can be overwhelming, but trust me, when it comes to cystic acne, resistance is key! Here’s why: cystic acne lives deep under the skin, unlike whiteheads or blackheads. Popping it can cause trauma to the surrounding tissue, leading to even more inflammation and scarring down the line. Popping just makes it worse. Plus, you risk spreading bacteria further, which can cause more breakouts. So what should you do? * Resist the urge to pop! I know, it’s tough, but trust the process. * Treat it gently. Wash with a gentle cleanser and use oil-free products. * See a dermatologist. They can recommend treatments like topical medications or injections to target cystic acne effectively. Remember, a little patience goes a long way. By resisting the urge to pop and treating your skin with care, you’ll be on your way to clearer, smoother skin without the unwanted scars. 👌 #drdevpatel #acneawarenessmonth #cysticacne #beautytrends #acneawareness #skinhealth #UKacnestatistics #acnecauses #acnepositivity #acnetips #acnecommunity #pimplepopping #squeezingspots

Did you know that hairfall often has a seasonal pattern? It's common to notice increased shedding during autumn and winter. This is due to a variety of factors: Telogen Effluvium: A temporary condition where more hair follicles enter the resting (telogen) phase after summer, leading to noticeable shedding. Reduced Sunlight: Lower levels of vitamin D during shorter days may impact hair growth, as this vitamin is crucial for healthy hair follicles. Temperature Variations: Sudden transitions from warmer to colder weather can stress the scalp and hair, weakening hair roots and contributing to loss. While seasonal hairfall is natural, maintaining a balanced diet, scalp care routine, and reducing stress can help mitigate the effects. If the shedding seems excessive or prolonged, it’s always a good idea to consult a dermatologist. #HairCare #SeasonalChanges #HealthyScalp #TelogenEffluvium #AutumnHairfall #HairScience #LinkedInScience
