Today, we recommend a recent webinar organized by CAMAG and Nammex: Organic Mushroom Extracts. Prof. Dr. Melanie Broszat and Coleton Windsor introduced a fit-for-purpose, validated HPTLC method that helps to authenticate several fungal species and thus address industry concerns over mislabeling and product efficacy. The webinar lets you find out how this new technique was specifically designed for the identification of multiple fungal species and gain insights into composition and quality differences between commercially available fungal products: https://lnkd.in/gahd9Mri

Cocopeat is included in the organic hydroponic growing media, because it is made from coconut fiber powder. Cocopeat has a Ph between 5.0 to 6.8 so it is very good for the growth of any plant. Cocopeat has the property of easily absorbing and storing water and has pores, which facilitate air exchange and the entry of sunlight. It contains Trichoderma molds, a type of enzyme from fungi, which can reduce disease in the soil. In this way, cocopeat can keep the soil loose and fertile.

A new trial has demonstrated how the BioStart Organic biostimulant programme improves soil biology. In the trial a kiwifruit orchard converting to organics treated a block with the Biostart organic programme and compared it with their standard organic conversion block over a 3-year period. Soil Food Web testing showed the following results: • Active and total fungi levels both increased 5-fold in the Biostart-treated block vs active levels doubling in the standard block but total fungi levels halved. • Active and total bacteria levels had doubled in the Biostart-treated block, whereas active bacteria levels remained similar for the standard block and the total bacteria levels halved. • Endo-mycorrhizal levels increased from 0.2% to 33% in the Biostart block vs only reaching 17% in the standard block. • There was a big lift in protozoa in the Biostart-treated block which positively impacts nitrogen cycling ability. A good microbial balance improves nutrient availability and overall soil health, which led to the following improvements in soil chemistry, shown below. The programme: Biostart N with Organic Mycorrcin at budbreak, Organic Mycorrcin and Foliacin applied over the growing season, and Organic Digester in autumn. 📢 Excited to announce our latest publication in Foods 📑. Our article, titled "Antioxidant Ready-to-Use Grape Pomace Extracts Recovered with Natural Eutectic Mixtures for Formulation of Color-Rich Gummies," explores the development of eco-friendly, anthocyanin-rich extracts from wine industry residues. Using natural eutectic mixtures we successfully obtained a powerful antioxidant extract, ready for incorporation into functional food products like gummies. 🌱 This research demonstrates that these eutectic mixtures not only enhance the extraction efficiency of anthocyanins but also improve the thermal stability of these natural colorants, making them suitable for the food industry's increasing demand for natural additives. 🍇 👨🔬 A huge thank you to my collaborators (Julia Trentin, Matheus S. T. Arantes, Alessandra C. Pedro, Marcos R. Mafra, and Fabiane Oliveira Farias) for their incredible work! ⚠ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eZW_yxib Discover how natural eutectic mixtures can shape the future of clean-label, sustainable food products! #GrapePomace #NaturalColorants #Antioxidants #Sustainability #FoodInnovation #CircularEconomy #EutecticMixtures #FunctionalFoods
