Have you noticed that movies these days are remakes or part of a larger franchise? Jurassic Park was first released in 1993 and is still seeing movies made in the same universe. I think there’s one coming out in 2025, called Jurassic Park - Extinction, so maybe that's the last we’ll hear of it. But a big part of what drives this is nostalgia. Who doesn't love a nice trip down memory lane now and then? Especially in the food industry, nostalgia plays an important role in connecting with consumers. This is something we at McDonald's have been known to do from time to time. Most recently, McDonald’s US released ‘Collector's Meals,’ which included special edition cups featuring images of fan favourites like Barbie, Hot Wheels, Jurassic Park and Shrek, among others. These cups have not only been flying off the shelves, but they've also been seeing a high resale value, with cups selling for $120 and many people trying to collect the full set. This taps into the emotional connection people have with their childhood memories. Has Trulieve JUMPED THE SHARK? 🏄♂️🦈 If you were already en route to the beach late last week you may have missed this HUGE announcement… "Trulieve Announces Partnership with Professional Pickleball Association and Major League Pickleball" The MSO has inked a sponsorship agreement for pickleball events in Arizona, Florida, and Georgia… 😂 Is THIS where Trulieve should be spending shareholder dollars for promotion and customer acquisition?? Class, I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm forever dubious about the strategy of spending heavily far from your stores. Particularly since 2 of the 3 states are currently medical. That being said, Pickleball is fastest-growing sport for the third straight year with ~14M players in the U.S.... And many are 55+ and injury prone, which could make them the perfect target market. Also, the sport is more fun and less serious than others. I could see Karen pop an edible and dink it up for a bit. But I want to know what YOU think: — Is this as a good use of funds? — Is this a prudent marketing decision? — Are we excited that PICKLEBALL is endorsing cannabis? — Is this a step on the way to the NFL/MLB/NBA or WWF? As always hit me in the comments… Also, did any of the yung ones get the Fonzie reference? Or am I stuck as part of Trulieve's target demo??

In 2017, the Atlanta Falcons opened its new $1.6B Mercedes-Benz Stadium with a pleasant surprise for fans: a jaw-dropping drop in concessions prices. The team slashed prices of hot dogs from $8 to $2, soda from $5 to $2 (including free refills), and beer from $8 to $5 (for some local beers at the time). The team says total transactions are up 30% compared to when the team played in the Georgia Dome, merchandise sales are up 20%, and average number of items per transaction up 20%. Big news for women’s sports ⚽🌟 Denver has officially secured the NWSL’s 16th franchise, submitting the first part of a $110M expansion fee – the largest in women’s sports history. Denver FC, led by IMA Financial Group CEO Robert Cohen, is expected to begin play in 2026. Denver beat out Cincinnati and Cleveland, the other finalists for the expansion. It's Fieldays week! If you can squeeze in the time, then I encourage you all to visit. I have a deep connection (past Board member, Innovations judge - and more...). But regardless of the past, I get such a kick out visiting each year. First, seeing this years' innovations - the gift that keeps growing (puns always intended). Clever people and technology adding value to NZInc. As a patent attorney it is particularly gratifying to see the commercial version of what you first came across as a raw concept, and as an IP strategist, it is such a pleasure to see how inventors and companies position themselves. Next, I am reminded how we are all interconnected in the Agritech space and how it underpins NZ's economic fabric. We all depend upon and support each other. Last - mussel fritters! Need I say more... See you there.

The first step into something new… Last night’s inaugural Whisky Sounds Good event went off very nicely – 15 of 17 tickets sold, which, for a Monday, and my first event, isn’t half bad. Huge thanks to everyone who braved the storm to join us. Always nice to see a few familiar faces along with a some new ones. It’s clear to me that success in anything is rarely achieved by a solo effort. I truly appreciate the support of those that bought tickets and to Tucker, Candice and the Algiers Club* for helping make this event a success. The feedback on the whisky selection was very positive – so much so that a few even suggested I’m undercharging. Don’t worry I won’t be so kind in the future 😆 We even managed a five-star review on the event site (thanks for your support, you know who you are 😁). Now it’s time for more planning, perhaps a cigar with local cigar expert Francisco Arias and a few more days in Dallas. Up next is Houston and Detroit.
