As we continue to work side by side with both sides of government we recently met with Terry Young Federal MP for Longman and Tony Pasin Federal MP for Barker and Shadow Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. The round table was an open discussion focused on what more we can do to stop the carnage and loss of life on our roads and beaches. We all must work together, provide quality Education programmes, own our behaviour behind the wheel and push for change. Doing nothing is simply not an option. #strengthtochange #HKP03

In October, DHCD Secretary Jake Day (former ESLC Center for Towns Director) and MDOT Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld signed a memorandum of understanding to advance Maryland’s transit, housing, and climate goals. This is great news for the state of Maryland and the Eastern Shore. The land use data that ESLC acquired from Urban3 for the Eastern Shore shows that communities that are closely woven together (like in our historic cores) have a much higher return on the investment for local governments. But in many cases, this type of development is hard for small rural governments to plan for due to the lack of accessible public transportation and our dependency on cars which take up a lot of space in our urban areas. There is a close relationship between housing and transportation, between where we live and how we access basic services. This relationship is tied to land use and it is encouraging to see close collaboration between these two state-level departments addressing the issue. https://lnkd.in/e8jXCD52

On March 8th, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the updated, web-based, Equal Access Assessment Tool (EAAT). The EAAT can play a crucial role in promoting accountability, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting organizations in their efforts to provide inclusive and equitable services to individuals accessing shelter and services in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. This blog provides an overview of the tool, what it assesses, and why it’s important. While mandated for specific HUD funded programs, the EAAT can be used by all organizations providing shelter and services to assess whether their practices and procedures align with legal requirements and best practices for providing equal access to shelter and services. The assessment is an important first step in assessing strengths, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing action steps to ensure the provision of inclusive and equitable services in Mecklenburg County.
