Ever run into someone at the grocery store, and you cannot remember their name so you try to cover it by saying, “Hey, buddy, how are you doing?” Then fifteen minutes later, you remember that his name was Bill, and you chide yourself for forgetting that? This is normal - you do not have dementia. HOWEVER, What may not be normal aging is when you repeatedly start to forget important information that you formerly would have easily remembered, or those around you start to notice a decline. Some forms of dementia are due to other medical problems that have gotten out of control—side effects from medications, for example. Increase in Complex Care Needs: Over the last decade, the proportion of home care recipients with complex care needs, such as those requiring assistance with multiple health conditions or dementia, has increased by nearly 50%. This has placed additional pressure on care providers to offer more specialized and skilled care at home. This reflects the growing demand for advanced home care services as the population ages and individuals live longer with chronic conditions. #miltonkeynes #domiciliarycare #homecare #homecareuk #HomeCareHeroes

For everyone attending the #SOAHealthConference next week: Dirk Soenksen, John Mach, and I will be presenting on #GUIDE, a voluntary nationwide model developed by CMS to support individuals living with #dementia and their unpaid caregivers. Our discussion will cover the rising prevalence of dementia within an aging national population, the disproportionately high claim costs associated with dementia patients, and strategies caregivers can employ to halt the cycle of deterioration. Additionally, we will delve into the GUIDE program, exploring both how it is designed to assist those with dementia and how it will operate for participants. We will also consider GUIDE's potential impact on other stakeholders and discuss the feasibility of adapting this model for #MedicareAdvantage. For those seeking further information, my colleagues and I have authored a paper on the GUIDE program. You can find it in the comments below.
