It's 5:35 PM, December 31, 2024. I’m sitting here at the Curefit - house of cult headquarters in Bengaluru, alone on the office floor. The holiday cheer has swept most people out the door. The lights are dim, the usual buzz is gone, and it’s just me, my laptop, and a quiet resolve to finish what I started. The temptation to shut my laptop and call it a year is real. But I’ve made a promise to myself: no more starting a new year with a pile of unfinished work. 2024 taught me some hard lessons about procrastination and productivity. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, drowning in tasks I’d pushed off until “later.” But as the year went on, I realized that when you’re running a business, “later” isn’t an option. So, I turned things around. I learned to prioritize, organize, and—most importantly finish. And let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer. As I type this, I’m down to just two tasks. Two little hurdles stand between me and the satisfaction of closing out 2024 with a clean slate. Once those are done, I’ll head home, ready to ring in the new year with a blank to-do list, a clear mind, and the anticipation of a sea of new challenges and opportunities. If productivity was a challenge for you as well this year, I want you to know I’ve been there. I know how tough it can be. But I also know it’s possible to turn things around. What a year. 2024 has been a ride— full of challenges, lessons, wins and growth. A year knee deep and - mostly (not always) - navigating (surviving?) the relentless hustle of startup life. ✨ So... I’m taking this season to pause, reconnect, and recharge. ✨   It’s been a year of ups and downs, and I’ve learned a lot from both. Those lessons and learnings have taken us - and me - far further forward than I could have imagined, and I know they’re setting the stage for something even bigger in 2025.   It's also been a year of building a great big new network - a network I look forward to nurturing and building further in 2025. Thank you for all of those who walked some of all of the path with me in 2024 - I'm grateful. 🍀   For now, though, it’s about taking a step back. Spending time with the people who’ve supported me along the way. It's my last working day of the year and I'm feeling reflective... 2024 has been a year of great progress for Instant Impact: - We grew by c.39% (pending year end results!) ↗️ - We transformed our proposition with creation of our #tech stack and the introduction of Centres of Excellence 🏆 - We launched Impact X our new Exec Search brand 🚀 - We were ranked as the 14th best small business to work for in the UK 🏅 - We hired 44 new team members across the UK, US and South Africa including some brilliant senior talent with Elisabeth Dinter-Nethercott, Jessica Morgan MSc, Peter Blythe, Ling Taylor, Peter Bone, Philip Smith and Phil Gittins all joining the team 🤝 We also learned a lot: Always keep an eye on the long-term: At the start of the year our only Growth Objective was focused on hitting this year's number and we lost sight of the bigger picture - not spending as much time as we should focusing on the sustainable investments that were needed to achieve long-term growth. We rectified that after H1 which has led to a reshaped marketing team, use of upgraded technology, the introduction of RevOps, a BDR team and a Sales Director joining in March - we won't make the same mistake again Stay agile: the first part of our tech journey went more slowly than we'd hoped. Our Strategy to buy a one size fits all solution turned out to be wrong, and that's ok. We adopted a product-thinking approach to building around a number of core platforms - it makes us more flexible which is what our clients want. SMART OKRs: As we come to the end of the year and we're assessing how we performed we're proud of the progress that we've made but also feel that some of the OKRs that we set at the beginning of the year weren't specific or measurable enough to really determine whether we achieved what we want... It's been a formative year for us. I'm proud of what we've achieved and am really excited for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in 2025... Jan: Kicked off the year with a work trip to Europe Feb: Finally took the life-changing decision to move on and break barriers March: Slowed down to introspect, unlearn and re-learn. Q2: Embracing the businesswoman era! April: Took the bold step of wearing the entrepreneurial hat and starting up in unfamiliar territory May: Brainstorming sessions and laying the foundation of the business - registration, company name, brand, business model and everything business!  June: Secured the first CXO position with a client, officially in full swing. Q3: (July, Aug & Sept): Sheer hardwork, effort and commitment. Working and re-working through iterations. Client interactions, candidate calls, networking and more brainstorming! Q4: Energized, excited & embracing challenges  Oct: Saw the results roll in - our highest number of candidate closures. Nov: The highest income month of the year, but also witnessing a new set of challenges. 2024 last quarter. Open letter: The Year Where Things Happen It’s Saturday, and while most are probably winding down, I’m working through the last quarter. It’s a 4-month sprint—17 weeks—until the year wraps up and just 8 years away from my 45-year retirement plan (yep, I’m 37 or basically 38 in two months now, doing the math daily with help of my 8 years old daughter Paula Ausma). You know that saying, “It’s always darkest before the dawn”? Or maybe it’s “calm before the storm”? Whatever it is, 2024 felt like one of those years where everything just happened—but not in a way anyone could fully explain. When you're not sitting in some high-level agency cushy job but instead building a capex-heavy climate tech company (TerraWaste) leading Baltic sustainability initiatives (Baltic Sustainability Awards) or joining mega-cool startup like Turn (yep, sustainable burial urns are a thing) or The Crowd (an automated crowd-attracting tool), life moves in ways that are unpredictable, relentless, and sometimes... downright messy. Add to that still keeping my hands on the graphic and brand design side of things (I’m still looking at myself as designer and i love it), diving headfirst into AI tools, where the possibilities seem unreal, and oh yeah, trying to be there for my two kids and my remarkable wife—who, let’s be honest, deserves way more attention than I’ve managed to give—and, well, 2024 was a pretty decent year. But maybe, just maybe, 2025 is the year where things really take off. It’s like all this chaos is building towards something big, something flying just around the corner. 2024 wasn’t perfect, but it was experiential. And 2025? Who knows, but it feels like we’re on the edge of something huge.
