A friendly idea for ChargePoint, Electrify America, Shell Recharge and Enel Green Power - while the elimination of Tesla’s 500-strong Supercharging division is unfortunate (especially as I own a Tesla), this is an opportunity to quickly grow capacity and capability in a number of areas: 1) The charging experience is superlative. “It just works” happens every single time I use it, from nav integration, charging, and payment. 2) Excellent DCFC engineering, to paraphrase Rivian’s head of charger engineering (ex-Tesla). I get that this is not NACS, but they noted that everything from the dispenser handle to comms protocol (CANBUS) is simple, straightforward and effective. Sure, the NACS connector won’t do 300+ kW, but let’s face it: what good is anything above 150 kW sustained flow after the battery reaches 50% SOC for most passenger-oriented vehicles? #evcharging #evse #nacs #gridedge

Is Tesla’s Supercharger Network the Answer to the country’s Infrastructure Problem? “People want reliable charging. It's a big concern” Laycee S. A few weeks back I had the opportunity to be on a panel at Electrify Expo Long Beach to discuss Tesla's supercharging network with Laycee, Tom Bowen and very well moderated by Emily Dreibelbis. There's 3 main points we discussed: 1) Everyone wants reliable EV charging - this is a given. Tesla has been the gold standard and not by a small amount. 2) Because of this, every OEM adopted NACS as the industry standard, and interoperability is a great thing. 3) The sudden firing of all Tesla’s Supercharger crew was shocking and ill conceived, throwing unnecessary doubt into the entire industry. First Tritium, now Tesla... This post was meant to be optimistic - I recently enjoyed a long weekend touring 750km along the Great Ocean Road in a rental EV. Did I have range anxiety? YES (but no more than I would've had in an ICE vehicle). But with a bit of planning, this was an easy trip. I actually passed more EV chargers than petrol stations, and had some pretty good chats with locals... But the recent news around Tritium - and now also Tesla - is expected to slow the growth of charging networks, making it harder for EV drivers and slowing the energy transition. While the news is putting a spotlight on the commercial models and operations of charger manufacturers, we mustn't forget about the rest of the value chain - including the planning, connection arrangements and network charging (tariff design) of these assets. In a country as car dependent as Australia, there is a clear role for government to support the planning and delivery of this nation-building infrastructure and ensure the rollout doesn't stall - protecting consumers and ensuring ongoing access to this critical enabler of EVs. https://lnkd.in/gDTXv7Ya #EV #energy #energytransition

🇫🇷🇫🇷FRANCE: FAST CHARGING PERSPECTIVE⚡️⚡️ -- in two years time the amount of STATIONS in France increased 7,5-fold. The amount of plugs: 6-fold increase (!) --> Remember Big Auto CEOs saying "But Where Will They Charge?" (about, last week or so?!) here's the French Fast Charging reality as recorded by the one and only Didier Toulouze - in two years time the amount of STATIONS in France increased 7,5-fold. #NEVI is up to eight fast charging stations across six states, with at least two new states, Rhode Island and Kentucky, ready to be added to that list very soon. Ohio has also hit the half-year mark with its Pilot Flying J location in London, OH, which still boasts a perfect 10/10 and 100% success rate on PlugShare six months in. What else is notable at the energized NEVI sites after several months in operation?: 🗽 New York remains in pole position for activated sites, with three stations to everyone else's one. Ohio is best positioned to take that title, with 11 more federally funded sites currently under construction across the state. 💯 All sites appear to be maintaining high standards of reliability. Only early negative check-ins at EVolve NY's site in Kingston and Tesla's Supercharger in Rockland, ME (pictured below) drag NEVI sites down from a perfect "Plugscore". I've visited both sites and charged successfully alongside other EVs in the past month, indicating they have no long-term issues. ⚡ Hardware from five different manufacturers is now deployed at federally funded sites. Tesla and ABB are the most recent additions thanks to the new sites in Maine and Vermont. Both also bring new CPOs to NEVI, with Tesla's Supercharger network and Red E added. 📊 We still only have Plugshare and anecdotal reports to assess reliability, but that will change soon. The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation last week confirmed positive reviews for the pilot version of EV-ChART, its tool for data submission from NEVI charging station operators (more on that below). 🔴 What will happen to the large number of NEVI awards that Tesla has won, now that question marks are hovering above plans for Supercharger expansion? Will Tesla prioritize these locations as they are effectively subsidized, or consider them too onerous to operate with the various NEVI requirements? Watch a city near Tesla's first NEVI activation, Augusta, for more on this, as a second Maine NEVI award was won for Superchargers but ground there is not yet broken. Energy Storage is taking momentum at Large Scale🔋⚡️

To the former Tesla electric vehicle charging team members who were let go this morning, I'm sorry to hear the news. As a former Tesla team member, I remember how difficult the work was from day to day, week to week, month to month... but I also remember how rewarding it was - setting the pace through innovation, hard work, and perseverance in a relatively new and thus ever changing industry. You all should be proud of what you have built during your time at Tesla. The Supercharger network is such a bright spot within the EV community: the elegant design, top notch reliability, ease of use, and the sheer quantity of chargers deployed are no small feats, and deserve to be celebrated. And now, with NACS standardization and the release of the vastly improved Level 2 Universal Wall Connector, your work will continue to be appreciated and praised by countless EV drivers (like myself) for years to come. While the road ahead will no doubt be long and winding, it’s worth taking a moment to celebrate just how much and how quickly the EV charging industry has advanced on the shoulders of your efforts. Ad-hoc charging is 35% more expensive than it is for people who own Teslas or are paying members. Takeaways: Tesla's Supercharger network is the largest DC EV charging network with 50,000 connection points globally. Superchargers is an awesome product from Tesla, where they have shown a strong vision and execution. According to a recent report from Wedbush, Tesla could potentially generate $10 Billion / year (end of decade) from their supercharger network. However, keep in mind.. Teslas have fewer moving parts and don't need to be serviced really... The yearly service market was almost 1 trillion ($825 B 2023) dollars with yearly 10% growth. A market Tesla is a much smaller player within at the moment. Question How much revenue could Tesla on average earn from major software updates like EV optimization or adding real AV by 2030?
