What type of investor are you? A person who invests in shares acquires a stake in a company, becomes a shareholder and receives a portion of the profits distributed (dividend). A person who purchases bonds becomes a creditor of the issuing company, public body or government and is remunerated with a coupon (interest). It is possible to invest in both types of instrument via investment funds; these are financial instruments that pool savers' money, which is managed as a single major asset. Investment funds hold multiple securities and are therefore diversified by nature.
