We started the 4th session of our Inner Development Goals Switzerland Learning Lab with a beautiful quote by Thich Nhat Hanh: "Smile. Smiling can change the world" 😊 🌎 🌱 We continued our session with qigong movements, reflected on our life garden, played an improvisation game, enhanced our collaboration skills, and explored new ways to collaborate. The focus our session was the 4th dimension of Inner Development Goals framework: #Collaborating emphasizing the importance of #SocialSkills to create a sustainable global society. Once again, much respect to Pak Jokowi for stating factually that Indonesia's development is ASEAN's development when he was asked about the US-China relationship. A brilliant answer that clearly states that a sovereign country of 300 million people plays second fiddle to no one and is self-determined for the greater good of Indonesia and ASEAN. I truly dislike the hint that countries need to flex their "muscle" as hinted in the interview. Pak Jokowi clearly understands the "middle way," which is essentially an integral part of Buddhist philosophy. Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN and in BRICS (representing 50% of ASEAN) is critical as ASEAN's voice for the Global South and the world. I shudder to think that people in my generation and the younger generation might miss this opportunity to work with a growing force in ASEAN. Indonesia's needs a stable hand who can see through infrastructure development and be a steward for the important nickel and other mineral deposits in the country. ASEAN relevance and importance to the Global South and the world can only be strengthened by strong Indonesian leadership. We need to show the ASEAN way is unique and is measured by our metric and our unique ability to work towards coordinated collaboration. Our single-mindedness towards building a better life for all ASEANs is in alignment with our sustainability pivot. In Pak Jokowi's words, we need leadership with the courage to make decisions and the ability to take action.
