Is it fair to think that employees are the biggest problem in your business? Jon Anderson, a former banker turned coach, has a different take. In a recent episode of Leaving the Front Line with Brian Livingston, Jon shakes up the conventional wisdom. He suggests that we might need to shift our perspective from blaming employees to examining our own roles as business owners. In the episode, Jon shares his insights on employee management and transparent communication, drawing from his unique journey from banking to coaching. He challenges the often-held belief that employees are the 'problem'. Instead, he urges us to reflect on our actions, decisions, and leadership style. Are we, as business owners, contributing to the issue? Are we fostering an environment that encourages growth and productivity? Or are we creating obstacles, inadvertently perhaps, that hinder progress? These are the tough questions Jon dares us to ask ourselves. Are you ready to face the hard truths and transform your business? Tune into the latest episode of Leaving the Front Line to hear more from Jon Anderson.

Had the pleasure of talking about one of my favorite topics on the Engaging Leadership Podcast by EngageRocket: Culture! "Culture eats strategy for breakfast", and in my opinion, it couldn’t be truer. If you want to build a vibrant culture, you need healthy and productive debate. Surround yourself with people who are smarter, think differently, and are willing to disagree with you. It's how you get to the best answer. A true leader doesn't need a title. Take the role seriously, not the title. Less ego, more soul & heart. Less about status & more about purpose. Less about yourself & your individual desires, more about others & the collective vision. Less about about pleasing others, more about pushing, uplifting & growing them. Anybody can display leadership qualities at any level. Reminds of the book by Robin Sharma - 'The leader who had no title'. #leadership #growthmindset #purpose

How do you build a workplace culture that gets results and people want to be a part of? Recently, I spoke with workplace culture expert Chris Dyer about just how - practically - you build a human-centered work culture that helps people achieve those breakthrough results. Some great leadership moments in this discussion, but here are a few that stood out: ✳︎ Understand the specific pillars that contribute to a productive human-centered culture (transparency, positivity, measurement, acknowledgement, uniqueness, listening, and how you respond to mistakes). ✳︎ As you look at those pillars, which one is most lacking for the unit of culture where you have responsibility? (You may lead a team of five...you have culture in that team). Celebrate your strong pillar and invest in the one that needs the most work. ✳︎ This can't be said enough: Treat your people as responsible, adult human-beings - you know, the way you'd want to be treated. ✳︎ How transparency is critical if you want employees who contribute meaningful ideas and solutions. Share information - goals, financials, as much as you can. You build trust, people are more connected, and can make more meaningful contributions. ✳︎ Why measurement is a key part of a human-centered culture - you have to know what matters and how to get there. But you can't possibly know those things if you don't measure your outcomes. ✳︎ How to respond differently to mistakes vs errors (what is the difference, what to do with each, and why this is so important for human-centered leaders). Love this point! ✳︎ And so much more... I'd love to get your thoughts too - what is the most vital aspect of a productive, human-centered culture to you?
