Our award-winning spacer has been the subject of a number of recent discussions. This spacer was developed by Andy Fraser, MD of FT Gas Control Systems Ltd, for Cadent, with guidance from ROSEN (UK) and made in the USA by our spacer partners, APS. It is an encirclement band with wheeled ramps, for fitting onto PE pipe in order for it to be inserted into an existing cast iron host pipe without the need to remove Weko seals from socket and spigot joints; the spacer rolls over the seals and brackets holding them in place. The benefits of this spacer are many fold, including dispensing with the need for specialist operatives to enter the pipes to remove the Weko seals, and reducing the requirement to excavate/reinstate trenches, thus minimising costs and traffic disruption.
