On National Philanthropy Day (NPD), we celebrate the extraordinary change that fundraising and philanthropy have helped to create in our world! The word philanthropy comes from Ancient Greek φιλανθρωπία (philanthrōpía), which translates to "love of humanity". philo - to love anthrōpos - humankind In the second century CE, Plutarch used the Greek concept of philanthrôpía to describe superior human beings. Today, Brain Cancer Canada recognizes the contributions of all the “superior human beings” who have helped us raise over 2.8 million dollars and have made it possible to award 19 innovative grants in brain cancer research. Thanks to philanthropy, a future without brain cancer is possible. Celebrate National Philanthropy Day with a Gift: https://lnkd.in/gDRtjGYq #NationalPhilanthropyDay #NPD

🏃🏼♀️In just one week, I'll be hitting the Mallorca trails for a cause close to my heart: cancer research. As I gear up for the trail marathon, I'm reminded of the importance of both planning and strategy – not just in athletics, but in life and business too. Just as every step counts in training, every detail matters in our plans and strategies. 📝 Whether it's drafting a business proposal or preparing for a marathon, having a solid plan in place can make all the difference. It's about setting clear goals, mapping out the path to reach them, and staying adaptable along the way. 🙌 With the race just around the corner, there's still time to show your support and make a difference. Let's come together and make an impact in the fight against cancer. 🎗️ If you'd like to contribute to this important cause, you can donate directly in the link. Thank you for your support – together, we can make a difference! #CancerResearch #Fundraiser #Planning #Strategy #RaceDay

In 2010, my family embarked on a journey that reshaped our perspective on life, courage, and the power of resilience. Following my son’s diagnosis, we found ourselves navigating through the complexities of emotions, treatments, and the search for hope. It’s been 11 years since the end of treatment (EOT), and our journey has been nothing short of transformative. Recently, I came across a post from Lennox CCF about the book “Fearless Fin,” a story that resonates deeply with my family’s experience. This book not only captures the essence of bravery in the face of adversity but also serves as a beacon of hope for families similar to ours. It eloquently illustrates the journey many of us are all too familiar with, yet often struggle to articulate. “Fearless Fin” is more than just a story; it’s a testament to the indomitable spirit of those fighting battles we can hardly imagine. It reminds us of the importance of support, understanding, and never losing hope, even when faced with the greatest challenges. To anyone navigating through similar storms, know that you’re not alone. Stories like “Fearless Fin” and organisations like Lennox CCF are valuable resources and sources of comfort and strength. As we reflect on our journey and the profound impact of this book, I am reminded of the importance of sharing our stories. They not only provide solace but also illuminate the path for others in similar situations. Let’s continue to support each other, spread awareness, and celebrate every victory, no matter how small. #FearlessFin #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #Hope #Resilience #Support #LennoxCCF

Sunday was #WorldCancerDay, a day representing the impact on people globally who suffer the consequences from cancer, either directly or through those they love. More people than ever are now surviving cancer due to critical research, but this research can’t continue without our help. After the success of 2022, I have signed on to undertake the continuous 100km solo again – this time for Cancer Research on June 8th-9th 2024. This is part of the #UltraChallenge2024 which are a recognised series of immense challenges to support charities across the country. The challenge will involve covering a distance of 100km (62 miles) over 2.5km elevation (or ~2.3 Snowdon’s) and will take somewhere between 24-30 hours, continuing the journey through the night. Those of you who spoke or saw me after last time I did this know it was no easy feat, it took me 31 hours, along with plenty of tears and losing part of a toe! The aim this time is to be quicker, and hopefully keep more toes… I know times are hard but any amount you can spare no matter how small or big, will be unreservedly appreciated. Alternatively, any support/advice you can offer would also be appreciated, along with any playlist and/or podcast recommendations for the journey. And a massive thankyou to those supporting from Mott MacDonald, as colleagues and friends. If anyone you know would be interested in the challenge or donation, please feel free to forward this on. The Smash Cancer Loyola Team knows how to hit an ace! 🎾 Founded by Isabella Leaño in 2019 in honor of her grandfather, who passed away from leukemia, ‘Smash Cancer’ holds an annual tennis-a-thon tournament where the men’s and women’s tennis teams of Loyola University New Orleans play for 12 hours straight. “I combined my love for tennis and admiration for my grandfather into ‘Smash Cancer,’ an organization aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer research. This spirit of service, instilled in me by my Lolo, has served as the cornerstone of my journey in making a difference in the lives of others,” says Isabella. The fundraiser has had over 1,000 participants and raised over $30,000 for #StandUpToCancer. 🧡 THANK YOU, Smash Cancer Loyola, for your contribution to SU2C’s mission! 100% of your donations received supports Stand Up To Cancer and our collaborative cancer research programs – bringing new treatments to patients now.

#NoNFNovember This post is part of the #NoNFNovember campaign to raise awareness and funds to end NF. Follow along here every day at 4pm ET for a new post and new story. ***** "I’ll always remember the panic, fear, hysteria. I held my toddler son in my arms, his body shaking violently while I raced down the stairs to the arriving ambulance. After placing him in the hands of the EMT my wife jumped in with Jack and I followed in the car with the rest of the kids. The full body seizure lasted an hour, the diagnosis a lifetime. After brain and hand surgeries successfully removed two tumors, we learned of two more deep inside between inner ear and brain stem. He had NF2-related schwannomatosis, tumors growing on his nerves. The out of town brain surgeries required extended trips to the west coast for risky procedures that deafened one of his ears. The MRIs revealed a pattern of tumors riddled throughout his spine and brain stem. They are monitored regularly for signs of growth and the possibility of future surgeries. The tumor on his bicep was surgically removed only for another to be found in his wrist shortly thereafter. He often describes the “zingers” that race through his nerve fibers like an electric shock. It is a part of his life and our family’s life. Like a nightmare we put it out of our thoughts praying it will never recur, but the tumors continue to grow. The Children’s Tumor Foundation will find a cure. Please help." John Morris ***** This post is part of the #NoNFNovember campaign to raise awareness and funds to end NF. On the 25th of April, teams from many different companies will be working together with Google to help the Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie discover ways in which Generative AI can help them in their mission. This mission is to work towards a world where no kid has to go through cancer and where they can live a life free of the long term symptoms that often follow. If you want to help this cause (and it would mean a lot to me if you did), then you can do a couple of things: 1. You can register for the hackathon itself on the 25th of April as a team. Reach out to me if you are interested, we still have a couple of open slots. 2. If you're not of the technical sort, you can donate and help support their mission here: https://lnkd.in/e7C5ditA Let's use technology to make the world a better place :) #cancer #maxima #google #hackathon #fundraiser
