🌍 Today is International Day of Sign Languages! 🤟 This day reminds us of the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and recognition of sign languages as equal to spoken languages. With over 70 million people worldwide using sign language as their primary means of communication, it's crucial that we celebrate and advocate for linguistic diversity. However, accessibility isn't something to focus on just one day a year—it's an everyday commitment. By promoting accessible workplaces, inclusive technology, and ensuring equal rights for those who are Deaf or hard of hearing, we can build much more inclusive world. Recognizing sign languages enriches our communities and creates space for everyone to participate fully. On today’s episode of Trumps first week in office, I discovered that my piece on equity in language access on SSA’s page was removed. Language access is about much more than serving those who speak English as a second language - it’s about inclusivity for everyone, including those who are deaf and hard of hearing. Today I found myself asking my friends, what do we do when it feels like the world is working against you, silencing your voices and your opinions? Well there is not a definitive answer, I’ve held on to the motto from my step class: “Don’t stop. Don’t quit. Don’t give up”. I remain committed to advocating for equity- not just in language access but across all sectors like AI, philanthropy, economic mobility, and education. These conversations are more critical now than ever. Let’s keep pushing forward. #equity #stillnotgoingback #Languageaccess #AI #Philanthropy #Education #thegreatequalizer
