"The #PRIME Study – a groundbreaking investigational medical device trial for our fully-implantable, wireless brain-computer interface (#BCI) – aims to evaluate the safety of our implant and surgical robot and assess the initial functionality of our BCI for enabling people with quadriplegia to control external devices with their thoughts. This study involves placing a small, cosmetically invisible implant in a part of the brain that plans movements. The device is designed to interpret a person’s neural activity, so they can operate a computer or smartphone by simply intending to move – no wires or physical movement are required. I published this machine learning paper for analyzing ECG signals in IEEE Access a while ago, and it has over 30 citations. https://lnkd.in/gsDGvCJg For the paper, I used a combination of CNN and LSTM to extract features from a two lead ECG signal. Afterwards, I detected the position of the QRS complex with high accuracy that could be useful for determining the heart rate in patients. #ECG #machinelearning #deeplearning #cnn #lstm

What do we learn from this? 1. Know your method 2. Know how to test Not investing the time to understand the technical details and to apply proper statistical tests is short term thinking. Just blindly use the newest methods and apply it as a black box is not the way you should go if your solution is supposed to be robust and trustworthy. #robustai #aivaluation
🚨 Concerning discovery by Fabian Isensee, Tassilo Wald, Constantin Ulrich, Michael Baumgartner, Saikat Roy, Klaus Maier-Hein and Paul F. Jaeger: ❗Many claims of superiority in #MedicalImageSegmentation do not withstand strict testing! The team critically evaluated recent claims of superior performance in 3D medical image segmentation methods compared to the nnU-Net baseline. They identify common validation shortcomings such as inadequate baselines, insufficient datasets, and neglected computational resources. Through meticulous benchmarking, the team finds that employing CNN-based U-Net models, utilizing the nnU-Net framework, and scaling models to modern hardware resources are key factors for achieving state-of-the-art performance. These results challenge the prevailing belief in the superiority of novel architectures and emphasize the importance of stringent validation standards for scientific progress. 🔍 Read the whole investigative report for detailed info: https://lnkd.in/e5RwVWwm.
