Receiving a new account number from the hotel or airline may lead to complications with existing reservations and require updates with partners like car rental or gas stations. If refunds are denied, consider filing a criminal complaint with your local sheriff's department. While catching the criminal may be challenging, having a record can be beneficial. Furthermore, lodging a complaint with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) can highlight data mishandling issues, potentially prompting regulatory action. Generally I like the idea of transparency, but I am curious how much would the enforcement of 49 CFR 371.3 for brokers matter? A carrier operates in such a way as to know what margin they need on a given load for it to work for their business. Whether the broker is taking a large cut or a tiny cut, does that change the math on if it is a good opportunity for that carrier? I suppose you could say that more transparency could reduce the cut a broker takes and that trickles down to the carrier, but I think that is already happening... i.e., brokers running on razor thing margin or losing money and eventually those brokers go out of business and/or offer sub-par service. Given I work with folks in the industry and am not a broker or carrier myself I am likely missing something, just interested in how much increased transparency would impact your operation.
