A 5-step roadmap to navigating self-reflection in leadership Being a leader isn't always comfortable; it is a journey filled with challenges and inner conflict. Through the experiences of Carlos M., a fictional executive facing team discord, Ben Bryant provides a five-step self-reflection guide for leaders to enhance their emotional intelligence and cultivate a more resilient leadership approach. "If you are aware of your emotions and how and why they emerge, you can start to minimize their impact on your decision-making," highlights Bryant, Professor of Leadership and Organization. "You can also decide to start growing as a leader," he adds. Learn more on #IbyIMD: https://bit.ly/4aO2WI6 And check our Transformational Leader page: https://bit.ly/3uUhXrW #IMDImpact

Self-reflective leadership is sometimes perceived as a cure all and it seems that most leaders perceive themselves as self-reflictive, while many of their direct reports would just role their eyes when they hear such a self-assessment. Which is, of course, the perfect irony. My friend Ben Bryant at IMD wrote an important article on this 👇 Leadership starts with you „Managing other people successfully and effectively requires you to manage the dissonance of leadership. It requires you to manage the different elements of your identity and yourself that you bring to the role — the aspects of selfhood that serve the role’s and the organization’s needs. Doing these things well is contingent on how good you are at self-reflection. An anatomy of self-reflection I think it’s important to be clear about what self-reflection is and isn’t. For a start, being self-aware isn’t necessarily going to make you feel better about complex things. You won’t suddenly stop having difficult or negative emotions. You will find that you are better equipped to normalize your erratic or irrational behaviors. You will be better able to find your balance and clear your mind in difficult situations, and you will be better positioned to help others do the same.“ #leadership #identity #emotions #selfreflection #irrational #organizationalbehavior
