“Nothing about us without us” Dive into the powerful insights from Prof S. Caroline Taylor AM PhD, co-author of the #CouncilOfEurope guidelines for policy makers on engaging with victims and survivors of childhood sexual violence #CSEA ❗️ The guidelines provide essential principles for policy makers on how to engage in a meaningful and safe way with victims and survivors to create holistic, evidence-based policies that effectively protect children, facilitate healing, and ensure justice. The newly published guidelines have been developed by two prominent survivor advocates with extensive experience in engaging and facilitating victim and survivor participation in policy making, Prof S. Caroline Taylor AM PhD and Sophie Otiende “Child sexual violence and exploitation is an urgent and unremitting issue across the globe. Genuine and strategic engagement with survivor advocates in the development, design and implementation of policy, legislation and programmes are key to eradicating these heinous crimes against children. As a survivor advocate, policy makers will never have to be as brave as we have had to be in our lives. But we are asking policy makers to show bravery and courage in adopting these guidelines”. So excited to see the framework for meaningful engagement Sophie Otiende & I worked on incorporated into the Council of Europe’s new guidelines for meaningful engagement in policy of survivors of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation. Working with friends who are also colleagues I deeply respect is always a joy (and always creates magic!). https://lnkd.in/eDUfgMym It is currently being used in OVC’s Survivor Engagement TTA project, support for The Freedom Fund’s survivor leadership fund, and a handful of other trainings that survivors who’ve worked closely with it have developed (since it was published under a Creative Commons, non-commercial, share-and-share-alike license). Sophie and I both came to our anti-trafficking work after years of experience in movements whose sectors had organic and historical leadership by people with lived experience. In the ME Toolkit, we merged the two frameworks we’d been teaching separately (which both reflect how lived experience engagement works in sectors more closely aligned with the movements they work with), and worked with a team of about a dozen nonprofit professionals, HR professionals, activists, and advocates (about half of whom had lived experience) to build out examples, barriers, and challenges. It includes a variety of assessment tools for organizations to better evaluate where they can improve their engagement, and you can find it here: https://lnkd.in/gFHKggZW (Researchers and funders can find a research-specific toolkit for engagement here: https://lnkd.in/gFHKggZW) For organizations hoping to implement this framework, National Survivor Network and Azadi Kenya have consultants trained to support you, and we’re currently training two more cohorts of consultants!

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment, free from the threat of exploitation and harm. Yet, millions of children worldwide face the trauma of sexual abuse, leaving lasting scars on their lives and communities. This isn't just a statistic, "it's a call to action". Through education, advocacy, and support, we can break the cycle of abuse and create a world where children can thrive without fear. Together, we can amplify our voices, empower survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable. I am proud to stand with Action to End Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, End Violence, and UNICEF in this crucial mission. Let's turn awareness into action, and together, build a safer, more compassionate world for every child. #EndChildSexualAbuse #TogetherWeCan #UNICEF

Great info provided by the SOS Kansas staff for this #SAAM2024 segment. This week in the series, we focused on the individual prevention strategy of prevention education with children and youth, as well as community level strategies like ensuring affordable childcare is available—which IS a sexual violence prevention method. Have you connected the dots about how access to affordable childcare can reduce child sexual abuse? Let’s #buildconnectedcommunities and support these systemic solutions to prevent sexual violence before it happens!
What can you do to prevent sexual violence against children? Turns out, a lot! Thanks to Michelle McCormick, LMSW, executive director of Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV), for inviting Ginny and Danielle with SOS, Inc. in Emporia to shine light on this important issue.

Join ACCP experts, along with others from Griffith University's Griffith Disrupting Violence Beacon, Survivors & Mates Support Network (SAMSN), and Fighters Against Child Abuse Australia (FACAA) in a free online webinar on Wednesday 21 August, supported by the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse. The webinar will discuss the first findings from the research project 'Understanding the experiences of child sexual abuse disclosure in Australia in the wake of the Royal Commission', a project that explores the impact of disclosure on victim-survivors across their life course.
