Price wise I can no longer recommend #Starlink HP for mobility, or fixed for that matter, only for oceanic and world use. Performance of the HP is PITIFULLY poor having reduced from over 400Mbps to often barely 200Mbps, lower than the old Standard Actuated on a residential plan. Sorry, snow melt and rain fade performance advantages in the UK are not enough of good reasons to purchase HP. Also the power draw is much higher than the Standard's more flexible PoE type solutions we have. Also, for only £399 +£50 a month for 50GB mobility, Starlink Mini users get similar usable performance at a MINISCULE fraction of the cost of HP. Mini £399 for hardware and £50 a month for 50GB of data HP £2,470 for hardware and £247 a month for 50GB of data Add in the versatility of the Mini and low power options, it makes using the HP even less attractive. For permanent installs the Starlink Standard with 40GB Priority provides similar performance to the HP at a small percentage of the HP's total price. Assuming the new Enterprise Kit, based on a more power hungry Standard antenna, replaces most business HP deployments, but even here it's a push to recommend that. So unless I'm installing on a ship, or the bespoke versions for trains and aircraft, what is the point of Starlink's High Performance flat kit? Posted 19th August 2024

#Starlink is constantly tweaking their end to end service elements resulting in a cumulative 30% drop in latency from 48.5ms to 33ms, with an ambition to get to a median 20ms. Of that remaining 33ms, up-to 7.2ms is pure speed of light round trip, so Starlink are optimising other elements including PoP locations, capacity balancing, switching and CPE router and Wi-Fi capability. Great information here around how SpaceX is reducing link latency. Two things that caught my attention: 1- A connected car in the e2e connection diagram. Getting ready to focus on this new market after the John Deere deal? Could this be the year for Tesla robotaxi and autonomous vehicles? 2 - Improvements in sat bandwidth scheduling and WiFi queue management: Getting closer to bandwidth management and QoS for B2B segments? Lack of SLAs is one area where Starlink gets some criticism but this could be another development area.
