𝑨𝒍𝒚𝒔𝒆𝒊 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓? The European certifications PDO and PGI for excellent quality Food and Wine products have the purpose of simplifying the classification of those products that meet certain requirements. The simplification mainly concerns Italian wines. The Italian nomenclature, however, is still widely used and this is why you may still read these abbreviations on an Italian wine bottle: 𝐷𝑂𝐶𝐺 = 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐺𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝐷𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑂𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛 (𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑃𝐷𝑂); the regulations for DOCG wines are tighter and more restrictive (e.g. maximum permitted grape yields are lower, each wine must pass an in-depth technical analysis and tasting). 𝐷𝑂𝐶 = 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝐷𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑂𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛 (𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑃𝐷𝑂); this regulation delimits the production area, wine color, permitted grape varieties and max/min proportions, styles of wine, max/min alcohol levels as well as permitted or mandated viticultural, vinification and maturation techniques. 𝐼𝐺𝑇 = 𝑇𝑦𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐺𝑒𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 (𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑃𝐺𝐼); the IGT focuses on the region of origin, rather than grape varieties or wine styles. #Alysei #italianfood #italianwine #foodquality

What actually is natural wine? Natural wine is organic wine fermented without additives using traditional winemaking methods. But is it actually any good, and what are the benefits of drinking it? Soirée (OY Hospitality) restaurant manager Gabriele Rozzi explains more. "In simplest terms, natural wine is made with as little intervention as possible. Think of it as letting nature do its thing. Unlike wines, another category which can involve chemical processes and additives, natural wines strive to keep things pure and simple." https://lnkd.in/dyHGfGry

From vine to bottle, every step of the journey is driven by our mission: to make quality organic wines that let nature do the talking. 🍇 Using #RegenerativeOrganic practices, we cultivate healthy vines that produce vibrant and balanced grapes, shaped by the high-altitude terroir of Gualtallary. These grapes, full of vitality and grown without pesticides, yield quality yeast, which leads to a smooth fermentation once they reach the winery. By following where nature leads, we can reduce the need for human intervention during the winemaking process, creating wines that express their true character. #DomaineBousquet #OrganicWine

♻️ Across the world, #OrganicViticulture has grown by 13% a year over the past decade. Argentina is now one of the top 10 producers of organic grapes and wines worldwide, especially with organic #MalbecArgentino. 🍷🇦🇷 Our country has doubled its hectares with organic certification and, as one might expect, Malbec is the most successful variety among Argentine #OrganicWines. 📣 According to Victoria Brond, the oenologist at Alpamanta Biodynamic Wines: “Malbec’s flexibility and adaptability to the terrain helps us to regenerate the soils, implementing regenerative viticulture and organic and biodynamic practices without too much difficulty.” 🗣 The growth of the #OrganicMalbec category is now being seen in the market. This is confirmed by Alejandro Kuschnaroff, the winemaker at #ErnestoCatenaVineyards: “Consumers are notably gravitating towards organic Malbec. The prejudice against organic wines that once existed has gone.” 💬 So, what should we expect when we open an organic Malbec? Gustavo Bauzá from Casa de Uco - Vineyards & Wine Resort explains: “In sensory terms, both aromas and flavors, there isn’t a great difference between organic Malbec and the rest. The real difference is the philosophy, not the sensory experience.” 📎📲 Find out more in our blog article: https://lnkd.in/gpkk3F6J #VinoArgentino #ArgentineWine #MalbecWorldDay #BetterForTheWorld #SustainableFuture

"WIDEN, MUST, AND FEDERMOSTI FACE THE CHALLENGES OF THE WINE MARKET. AN ARTICLE FROM IL SOLE 24 ORE TALKS ABOUT THE FRENCH "SOLUTION" THROUGH UPROOTING." In a significant move, France has recently uprooted 9,000 hectares of vineyards in Bordeaux, marking a loss of 9% of the area's total surface dedicated to wine production. This action comes amidst a dire situation across Europe's vineyards, with Italy's southern regions, particularly Sicily and Puglia, also facing challenges, according to Domenico Bosco of Coldiretti. The struggle in these regions is exacerbated by the lack of effective branding strategies for their products, or partial implementation, such as the case with Sicilia DOC. As a result, wines from these regions are struggling to compete in the market, explains Mastrogiovanni of CIA. International buyers and large retailers are now primarily seeking White and Rosé Sparkling Wines, mainly produced in Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Emilia Romagna, leaving other regions at a disadvantage. Furthermore, there has been a shift in demand away from concentrated and rectified musts used for enrichment, as climate change has increased alcohol content in wines over the years, reducing the need for such products, according to Marco Bertagni, president of Federmosti. In response to these challenges, Italian wine producers, represented by the Unione Italiana Vini, oppose any vineyard uprooting, advocating instead for measures to strengthen competitiveness and guide productions to the market. European Industrial Associations, FEDERMOSTI/MUST and WiDEN, led by Bertagni Consulting, are developing strategies to address these market shifts. For distilleries, there is a growing interest in integrating production processes with wine dealcoholization, since European regulations allow Viticultural Distilleries to carry out this process. Meanwhile, FederMosti and MUST are focusing on labeling regulations effective from December 2023, highlighting sugar content to guide consumers towards more conscious choices, potentially shifting consumption towards wines made with grapes despite decreasing overall demand for enrichment ingredients due to changing climate conditions.
