“We want to understand why some patients with invasive lobular breast cancer relapse and gain more insight of how HRT and inherited genetic changes influence someone’s chances of developing this type of disease. “If successful, our research will help doctors identify those patients with lobular breast cancer that are more likely to relapse. They could then be offered more intensive treatment at the time of diagnosis.’’ Professor Elinor Sawyer is looking for new ways to tell which lobular breast cancer patients may benefit from personalised therapies. This project could help reduce ineffective treatments and minimise negative side effects, improving quality of life for thousands of breast cancer patients. https://lnkd.in/e37cBUDT

🔍 Information & Facts about Breast Cancer: 📊 Fact 1: The survival rate for early-stage breast cancer is over 90% with proper treatment. 👩⚕️ Fact 2: Breast cancer can also occur in younger women, not just those over 50. 💪 Fact 3: Maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol, and staying physically active can reduce the risk of breast cancer. ⚠️ Fact 4: Triple-negative breast cancer is more aggressive and more common in younger women and those of African or Asian descent. 🧬 Fact 5: Genetic testing can help identify mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2, which increase the risk of breast cancer. Nearly 2 million people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer globally each year, and 20-30% of CRC patients have metastatic disease at the time of diagnosis. Metastatic / Stage IV colorectal (bowel) cancer occurs when cancer spreads to another part of the body outside the colon, rectum, and nearby lymph nodes. Today, on World mCRC Day, we join our international advocacy partners to raise awareness of metastatic CRC (mCRC) and biomarkers, including the impact biomarkers have on mCRC treatment. World Lung Cancer Day is observed annually on August 1st. It’s a day dedicated to raising awareness about lung cancer and promoting overall lung health. According to the World Health Organization, lung cancer is the most prevalent cancer worldwide, causing more deaths annually than colon, breast, and liver cancers combined. The day emphasizes the importance of research, early detection, and treatment options for lung cancer. #worldlungcancerday

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine have developed a personalized neoantigen DNA vaccine targeting triple-negative breast cancer. In a phase I trial involving 18 patients, the vaccine was well-tolerated and elicited immune responses in 14 participants. Notably, after three years, 16 patients remained cancer-free. While further research is needed, these findings offer hope for more effective therapies against this aggressive cancer subtype. Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/dpA75NfK

Yesterday, our collaborators from The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust presented groundbreaking data at #ASCO24. In a study of 78 patients with breast cancer (23 TNBC, 35 HER2+, 18 HR+ and 2 unknown), our ultra-sensitive NeXT Personal® assay found that 100% of patients with no detectable residual disease in repeat testing did not have cancer recurrence. ctDNA detection correctly identified disease recurrence with a 15-month median lead time in all 14 patients that relapsed. 🧐Check out the #Article "Somatic Mutations in KEAP1-NRF2 Complex in Breast Cancer" 📌Access the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dKHDu7ch 👏by Micaela Almeida et al. Micaela Almeida What are the main findings❓ 🔹 Variations in the KEAP1-NRF2 complex, which regulates oxidative stress metabolism, are associated with poorer outcomes in breast cancer patients. What are the implications of the main findings❓ 🔹 Clinical approaches to breast cancer treatment could be improved by evaluating somatic mutations in the KEAP1-NRF2 complex in tumourtissue and surrounding benign tissue. This could enhance prognostic accuracy and treatment planning. The variability of genotypes, particularly in histologic grade 2 breast cancer, suggests that understanding genetic differences could be crucial for developing targeted interventions and improving patient outcomes.

A Portrait of Germline Pathogenic Variants in Breast Cancer Genes in Brazil The largest study of its kind in Brazil’s private health system analyzed germline variants in 13 high and moderate penetrance breast cancer genes. Pathogenic variants were found in 9.7% of cases, with 60% in BRCA1/BRCA2. Higher rates were observed in patients under 50 (12%), triple-negative breast cancer cases (14%), and triple-negative patients under 35 (17%). These results contribute to the understanding of genetic variants in breast cancer and may inform clinical practices for screening and risk assessment. https://lnkd.in/d5KeFe3C Leandro Jonata Carvalho Oliveira Fernanda Orpinelli Rodrigo Dienstmann Bernardo Garicochea Dr. Bruno Ferrari Mariano Zalis #Cancer #CancerResearch #BreastCancer #BreastCancerResearch #Brazil #Medicine #Health #Oncology #OncoDaily

Happy Fun Fact Friday! Did you know November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month? Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the United States for both men and women. More men die of lung cancer than the next two most deadly types of cancer for men (prostate and colorectal) combined. More women die of lung cancer (an estimated 59,280 deaths in 2024) than breast cancer (an estimated 42,250). Awareness is the first step to prevention. Funding research is the first step towards finding treatments that will prolong and save lives. https://lnkd.in/e9yBPbJy

2moLooking forward to see the results And how was relapsed diagnosed? What are .. if any .. the consequences of waiting for lobular breast cancer to become clinically apparent ? Would earlier relapse detection with WBMRI make a difference?.. #precisionmedicine #precisionimaging
