Today is the ideal day to give back to your community. Think about how you can uplift your community, however you define that network of support. Because community isn't just found where you live—it's the people, institutions, and places that makes you feel seen and supported through your highs and lows. Perhaps you are part of a community of practice or a community of learning that allows you to achieve more than you can alone? This is the day to acknowledge that community and give back. Here are some of the things I do: Reach out to someone in your community who has been looking to you for advice or support, Participate! Lend your voice, engage in discussions, and shape your community’s pathways to success, Expand your community by signing up as a mentor so you can give your time on an ongoing basis, Volunteer your time on projects that need help getting off the ground, Buy from small businesses and social enterprises that are the backbone of communities everywhere. Yes, donations are the key to maintaining your ongoing efforts, but have you considered other ways for your audience to get involved outside of financial giving? Even more common today, you’ll find generations of younger audiences wanting to join in as a part of something meaningful to make a difference. Their alignment with your message is already there, so if their only way of involvement is through donations, you may be limiting valuable potential for your support.
