THE BEST WAS ONCE BASIC BEFORE IT BECAME THE BEST! In the counseling profession, we witness incredible journeys of change and healing. Today, I completed an 8-week emotional regulation and healing program with a client who reflected on her experience with both hope and frustration. She said: 'I haven’t experienced a major shift yet, but there are small, noticeable changes. I’m more aware of my reactions now, even if I don’t always control them perfectly. After arguments, I struggle to let go, but the intensity of my emotions has lessened. I still worry, but I come out of it faster once I recognize it.' Then she asked a question many of us have pondered: 'Why can’t I fully control my reactions yet? When will I become my best self?' It’s natural to want instant and complete progress. But as I often remind my clients: the best was once basic. Practicing those basics every day is what leads to mastery. If you’ve made small, consistent changes, you’re on the right path. Keep going. Each step forward, however small, adds up and brings you closer to becoming your best—and then better than your best—as growth is a constant journey. Celebrate those tiny wins—they are the foundation of your transformation. people who don't have their habits handled are often the ones with the least amount of freedom. without good financial habits , you will always be struggling for the next dollar. without good health habits , you will always seem to be short on energy. without good learning habits , you will always feel like you are behind the curve . if you are always being forced to make decisions about simple tasks - when should I work out , where do I go to write , when do I pay the bills - then you have less time for freedom. it's only by making fundamentals of life easier that you can create the mental space needed for free thinking and creativity
