Mine the land for Critical Raw Materials (CRM’s), and/or, for Rare Earth Metals (REM’s), then dispose of these CRM’s / REM’s as wasted resources post use. Why? Promotion of a linear economy business model? Instead of mining these collective wasted resources (e.g. from ELV batteries, WEEE ….), let’s now extract them from the sea bed instead. We can see the environmental impacts arising on the land; what are the unintended consequences arising if mined from these depths? "The Inside Centre recoveries of ~60% when combined with grades of between 1,400 to 2,200ppm TREO, across an extensive 2km by 1km areas, with substantial thicknesses between 20 to 77m, a low stripping ratio, plus low acid consumptions continue to be a standout for the company. “These metrics align closely with the essential value drivers we believe are crucial for the economic viability of clay-hosted rare earth projects both in Australia and globally. "At the Splinter Rock Project we have no private royalties, do not sit over farming land, are located in a known wind and solar renewable energy corridor, plus we are only a short distance to the major port of Esperance. Rare earth elements are at a critical juncture. If the US, Canada and other countries do not invest in mining and processing, we will be completely dependent on China for chips, military equipment, electric vehicles, and critical infrastructure. 📢 Huge news for the marine sector and the future of deep sea mining 📢 I've been waiting a while to read this much anticipated paper from Sweetman Andrew of the Scottish Association For Marine Science ever since I heard about his talk last year at MASTS Scotland. The nodules that so many deep sea mining companies rely on for the production of batteries, may actually be producing oxygen through seawater electrolysis, and are key for deep-seafloor organisms.
