Today, April 4th, marks World Stray Animals Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of stray animals worldwide. Stray animals, particularly dogs and cats, face challenges including hunger, disease, and cruelty. World Stray Animals Day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to care for these vulnerable creatures and to take action to improve their welfare. At Street Hearts BG, we are dedicated to reducing the number of stray dogs in our area through neutering. We are also proud to offer a free neutering campaign in Dryanovo to ensure that as many owned dogs as possible are spayed / neutered. We have neutered over 4,000 dogs so far. We also place a strong emphasis on education, particularly targeting the younger generation. We firmly believe that children are the future, and by instilling values of kindness, compassion, and responsibility towards dogs, we can create a better environment for both humans and animals alike. Through educational programmes and outreach work, we hope to empower future generations to become advocates for the welfare of dogs – and all other animals. In the last eight years, we have made significant strides in reducing the number of stray dogs in our area; however, as our recent Day of Action highlighted, there is still work to be done. It's crucial to acknowledge that stray animals only exist because of human actions, whether through abandonment, neglect, or failure to spay / neuter pets. As such, it is our collective responsibility to be part of the solution. Through education, promotion of responsible pet ownership, and by advocating for spaying and neutering, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of stray animals across the globe. 🐾🌍*Loving Animals: A Path to a Kinder World* 🐾🌍 As a community, our compassion towards animals reflects our humanity. Animals enrich our lives with their loyalty, affection, and the joy they bring into our homes and hearts. But loving animals goes beyond enjoying their company—it involves taking meaningful actions to ensure their well-being. Here are some ways we can be more helpful to our animal friends: 1. Adopt, Don’t Shop: Give a loving home to animals in shelters. Adoption helps reduce the number of stray and abandoned pets. 2. Volunteer at Shelters: Your time and care can make a significant difference. Shelters often need help with feeding, walking, and socializing animals. 3. Support Wildlife Conservation: Donate to organizations dedicated to protecting endangered species and their habitats. Every contribution counts towards preserving our planet's biodiversity. 4. Promote Spaying and Neutering: Help control the pet population and reduce the number of animals in shelters by supporting spay and neuter programs. 5. Educate and Advocate: Spread awareness about animal welfare issues. Advocate for stronger animal protection laws and support cruelty-free products. 6. Be a Responsible Pet Owner: Ensure your pets receive regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, and plenty of love and exercise. 7. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Our lifestyle choices impact animal habitats. By being environmentally conscious, we can help protect the natural homes of wildlife. Let’s make a collective effort to create a world where all animals are treated with the kindness and respect they deserve. Together, we can make a difference. 🐶🐱🦁🐯🦜 #AnimalLove #AnimalWelfare #AdoptDontShop #WildlifeConservation #ResponsiblePetOwnership #MakeADifference

I have lived with several Zen masters, all of them cats - Eckhart Tolle 🐈⬛ The International Fund for Animal Welfare, an organization dedicated to animal protection, launched International Cat Day in 2002. It is currently a global celebration that unites cat lovers across the world in recognizing the unique bond between humans and their feline companions. One of the core messages of International Cat Day is encouraging people to adopt cats from shelters instead of buying them from breeders or pet stores. Shelters are often overcrowded, and many cats are in need of loving homes. 🐈⬛ The smallest feline is a masterpiece - Leonardo da Vinci 🐈⬛ While cats are adored in many cultures, the ways people celebrate can vary. In Japan, for example, cats are celebrated year-round, and International Cat Day is just one more reason to spoil them with treats and toys. In contrast, in countries where cats are more associated with farm life, the day may focus more on their role in controlling pests and maintaining ecological balance. In ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped as sacred animals, and harming a cat could be punishable by death. 🐈⬛ What greater gift than the love of a cat - Charles Dickens 🐈⬛ Despite the love for cats, overpopulation remains a significant issue. Many shelters are overwhelmed with cats, leading to difficult decisions about which animals to keep or euthanize. International Cat Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for responsible pet ownership and population control. Ensuring cats are well-cared for includes not only physical health but also mental stimulation and a safe environment. Whether through adoption, education, or simply appreciating the companionship of a feline friend, today encourages everyone to consider how they can contribute to the welfare and happiness of cats in their communities. 🐈⬛ A meow massages the heart - Stuart McMillan 🐈⬛ Photos of Sheeba my newest kitten 🐈⬛ #newseries #thejarofthoughts #internationalcatday #cutecat #kitten #catlovers #marishasblog

We have been asked "how are you going to save Indigo Mountain Nature Center?" With the blessing of the current land owner and Board of Directors to absorb Indigo Mountain into our organization we have a comprehensive plan in place. 1. Indigo Mountain has a maximum capacity of 50 rescues! By absorbing this sanctuary, Wild Spirit will be able to rescue far more critters in need of a forever home! 2. While licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA), Indigo Mountain is not currently USDA licensed, and thus, is not open to the public. This limits the amount of education and outreach the sanctuary can accomplish, and in a state in which wolfdog ownership is common, and where wild wolves now live. However, Wild Spirit is licensed, and would seek to bring Indigo Mountain up to code, increasing opportunities for education and broadening our reach to countless more people! 3. Indigo Mountain has the potential to provide us with more funding due to its proximity to Denver and Colorado Springs. While we love how remote Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is to accommodate some of our shy critters, it is a double-edged sword; it makes it incredibly difficult for us to sustain our operations and thrive in the current economy, mainly because it is difficult for our guests to get to us. Indigo Mountain would be an excellent opportunity to not only help fund Wild Spirit’s expenses and keep us running, but to finally allow us to flourish! 4. With two locations, we can cater more to our rescues’ needs! Both sanctuaries are built on many acres of land, which would allow us to place animals on or away from public-access areas based on their comfort and sociability. Our intent would be to transport many of our social animals to Indigo Mountain, where they can thrive in the public view. In turn, shier animals will have space at Wild Spirit, in the calm environment they need to feel safe, comfortable, and secure.

💔 𝐑𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐩. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 💔 Sharing my story gives me a higher survival rate. Pledges will help attract a rescue. Rescues cannot intake animals without foster. A1593035 Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Ian. I am a neutered male, tricolor Siberian Husky and German Shepherd Dog. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 6 years old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Mar 18, 2024. I am in kennel SOUTHB16. Ian is one very handsome dude. He's tons of fun and will love to go on long walks or jogs with you. This sweet guy loves to give hugs, loves people, and he takes treats very gently. Come check out this good looking guy and you'll see how wonderful he is. Heartworm Status: HIGH POSITIVE Eval. Notes: BEHAVIOR NOTE: When I approached his kennel, Ian was laying down in his Kuranda bed. He got up and approached the kennel door with a loose, wiggly body and a loose open mouth. I leashed him and he walked on a forward leash. While in the run he was running around with a loose body. On his way back inside, he walked on a tight leash. When I was walking other dogs, his kennel was uncovered from feeding. He was laying down with his back against the kennel door and didn't bark at every dog that walked by. He did bark very aggressively at dogs that stopped by and sniffed by his kennel . Throughout the day he was vocal in his kennel even with his kennel covered and even when no one was walking by. Stray animals day is celebrated every year on 4th of April, to cherish and honour the bond between human beings and stray animals and to showcase compassion towards the ones lost, injured, troubled or abandoned. The day was launched in 2010 when over 100 Dutch organizations convened at the Dutch National Stray Animals Conference. When it comes to animal welfare and their upliftment , the smallest of initiatives and steps have the potential to become big and have a greater impact than we think. To honour this pure connection and foster the core values of human- animal bond, here are 3 steps which each of us should implement: 1. PET: Affection and attention is what these creatures crave for the most. Understand their body language first, maintain your own safety and go ahead and shower them with love. 2. PROTECT: Storms, rain, extreme wind and harsh winters and summers can be a hard time for the strays as they have no roof over their head. Giving them a temporary abode when we witness their discomfort, can be beneficial for them and specially their young ones who might not survive otherwise. 3. PROVIDE: Finding some time to feed and take care of their nourishment, while also knowing what's safe for them and what's not can go a long way to cure the problem of starvation deaths. Providing does not only include food and water, but also first aid and medications on time, to avoid further spread and fatalities. Team Reviving Hummal extends their heartfelt wishes to everyone on this stray animal day. Let's take the initiative to follow the three Ps of nurturing the human animal bond, whenever and wherever we can. . . . . #strayanimals #strayanimalday #fyp #RH #teamrh #volunteers #cats #dogs #cows #feeding #protection #nurture #revivinghummal

To solve a problem, you have to understand the causes of the problem. People are the CAUSE and the SOLUTION to the problem of stray cats. We have been trying to kill them for more than 30 years and this article shows it is costly and ineffective. WORKING WITH PEOPLE to help them better care for the cats and have them desexed works! Read our latest publication to better understand community-driven solutions for wildlife management below 🐱 🦅 🐞 🐍 🐕
We're thrilled to share groundbreaking research on reducing stray cat populations through a community-focused desexing program, now published in The Conversation Australia + NZ. 🐱 This pioneering approach led to substantial reductions in cat impoundments and euthanasia, highlighting the critical role of community trust and support in the success of the program. This initiative not only saves lives but also offers significant financial savings for local councils. It also helps protect wildlife. The Conversation article coincided with the publication of the paper. Feel free to have a read and share. 🐱Publication: https://lnkd.in/eSiZKrTm 🐱Conversation Article: https://lnkd.in/eNFEJ834🐱 A big shout-out to Jenny Cotterell, the lead author how was an animal management officer for 22 years, and whose insights greatly enriched the recommendations from the study. Jenny is now a dedicated Policy Officer at the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation. Special thanks to our co-authors Jacquie Rand, Rebekah Scotney and Tamsin Barnes for their invaluable contributions. What are your thoughts on community-driven solutions for wildlife management? Let’s discuss! 🐱 #CommunityCatProgram #AnimalWelfare #StrayCats #Research #PublicPolicy #UrbanWildlifeManagement #Sustainability

🚨 URGENT UPDATE: Something is wrong with Happy. 🚨 Based on our monitoring of the Bronx Zoo elephant exhibit, it’s our understanding that Happy, an elephant held alone in captivity at the Bronx Zoo by the Wildlife Conservation Society, hasn’t been outside at all in at least a week, likely longer. Elephant behavior is never normal in captivity, but this development is especially abnormal. During past years in the summer months, Happy was seen outside almost daily. We’re greatly concerned about why Happy has been confined to the zoo’s elephant barn and why she hasn’t been seen in the exhibit’s main yard. Possible reasons she isn’t outside include: 1) She’s physically unable to leave the barn. 2) She’s under great psychological distress due to her prolonged isolation in an impoverished environment and is refusing to leave the barn. 3) She’s being denied access to the main yard. We fear that the physical and psychological distress Happy has suffered from for decades has reached a point of crisis. As we saw in our litigation that sought to #FreeHappy to an elephant sanctuary, the Bronx Zoo and WCS have a history of not telling the full story about Happy’s life at the zoo. For example, they claim that she doesn’t get along with other elephants when she in fact had a close elephant companion named Grumpy who was fatally attacked at the zoo. To bring urgent attention to Happy, we’ve filed a complaint on her behalf with the USDA, which has the authority to investigate animal welfare concerns. Happy has a right to bodily liberty and should have been sent to a sanctuary long ago, but a 5-2 majority of the New York Court of Appeals declined to grant Happy her freedom. We filed this complaint now because it’s in Happy's interest for us to appeal to the USDA to, at a minimum, investigate and enforce the barebones standards of the Animal Welfare Act. They also need to get Happy out of the Bronx Zoo and to an accredited elephant sanctuary before it’s too late. You can help by sharing this post. Thank you for helping raise the alarm for Happy. https://lnkd.in/g9inUhFU
