Interesting stats on road traffic deaths in 2023 #Netherlands revealing crucial insights. Did you know that 4 in 10 cyclist fatalities were due to collisions with passenger cars? Between 2019 and 2022, 1,199 cyclists lost their lives in traffic accidents, with 42% of these accidents caused by collisions with passenger cars or vans. Surprisingly, nearly 10% of cyclist fatalities were caused by collisions involving lorries or buses, while 32% resulted from falls off bicycles. Furthermore, 38% of cyclist fatalities among individuals aged 75 years or older were not due to collisions. In the same period, 1,022 road traffic deaths among passenger car occupants occurred. Of these, 29% were involved in collisions with other passenger cars or vans, 13% with lorries or buses, and 40% with stationary objects. For pedestrians, two-thirds lost their lives in collisions with passenger cars or vans, and 16% in collisions with lorries or buses. May is National Bicycle Safety Month, and DPS wants to remind both cyclists and drivers to exercise caution and travel responsibly. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, in 2022, there were 2,349 traffic crashes involving bicyclists in Texas; this resulted in 92 deaths and 333 serious injuries. Please do your part to help everyone stay safe on the road. #BeSafeDriveSmart If you're riding a bike: 🚲 Always wear a helmet; 🚲 Obey traffic signs and signals; 🚲 Use the bike lane if it's there; 🚲 Don't ride between vehicles; 🚲 Use hand signals when turning; and 🚲 Ride in the same direction as traffic.
