Why is recruiting the hardest sales job? Because candidates are people. My job is to introduce attorneys to law firms. An attorney. A person. A human being. Someone with a mind and feelings of their own. If I sell you a car, I can guarantee it won't decide at the last minute that it doesn't want to go home with you and wants to stay with its current owner. But I can't make that guarantee with an attorney. No matter how many conversations I've had with the attorney and how many promises the attorney makes that they want the job and want to work for your law firm, I can't guarantee that the attorney won't change their mind or accept a counteroffer. And I'm glad I don't have that power. It's hard enough to control my own mind let alone someone else's! Recruiting is harder than regular sales. I've done both and when recruiting, you're selling a change of scenery, life, and circumstance. The candidate is entrusting you to steer them in the right direction.
Very well said.
