*"Hey Connections: Breaking Dark Patterns, One Hackathon at a Time!✨🎉"*
Here's a LinkedIn caption you can use:
"Thrilled to have participated in the **Dark Pattern Buster Hackathon 2023** with an amazing team of four! 🌟 We tackled challenges in UX design and ethical tech, focusing on eliminating deceptive patterns to create better, user-friendly experiences. It was an incredible learning journey filled with collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving. Grateful for this opportunity and excited to apply these insights in future projects! 💡✨

I wonder, what is the purpose of a #designathon. Is it to demonstrate,
1. the ability to design under pressure, deadline, or
2. the ability to innovate or
3. to emulate the cool factor of hackathon - if they (programmers) can do it, why can't we? or
4. to showcase to the management, we are on top of things.
IMHO without involving real users, or keeping the users at the center of your design process, design is superfluous and self serving.
#Brainstorming,#Ideating, #Prototyping - all depend on the first and the last leg of the #DesignThinking journey - building #Empathy and #Testing and iterating which I am unsure, how one would manage to build in the timeframe of a designathon.
Instead of designathon's one could do design collaboration projects, maybe community based, follow the UCD process, perhaps spending 3-4 hours per week, even if it takes 6 months to complete, but which works on a real problem, with real users, and helps resolve the problem or adds value to the real user.

"Recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in a designathon internally, and what an experience it was! 🚀 For 6 hours straight, our UX team dove headfirst into brainstorming, ideating, and prototyping innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
💡 What made this event truly special was the freedom to think outside the box, unrestricted by the usual constraints we face in our day-to-day work.
🌟 It was liberating to explore bold ideas, experiment with new approaches, and push the boundaries of creativity.
Participating in this designathon not only refreshed our perspectives but also reinforced the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones to unlock new possibilities.

How "Future Thinking" is Shaping the Way We Work
I recently attended the Northern User Experience
Conference in Sheffield, thanks to a recommendation from a colleague, and it was an enriching experience. It’s exciting to see conferences expanding beyond London, making events like these more accessible across the UK.
#NUX regularly organizes events in cities like Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Sheffield, providing a platform for professionals to connect and learn. A big thank you to the NUX team for organizing such an insightful event!
One of the most valuable takeaways for me was diving into the concept of "Future Thinking." This approach emphasizes looking beyond today and preparing for long-term possibilities. It can drive decision-making, innovation, and anticipation of future challenges and opportunities.
Key points I learned include:
📌 Better Decision-Making: Using foresight to make decisions that consider long-term impacts.
📌 Driving Innovation: Applying future-oriented thinking to spark creative solutions and new ideas.
📌 Anticipating Future Challenges: Identifying trends and signals to prepare for what’s coming next.
A special thank you to Lauren Fridlington and BJSS * Sparck for providing us with such valuable insights during the event!
Looking forward to more NUX events in the future!

🚫 If you are looking for a 'capstone' project, please don't waste your time!
🕒 Wasting your time maybe is not a correct word - I am saying this as a person who provided many capstone projects to finish boot camp or sharpen my design skills - however, I can say they are all time-wasting for me. If you want to sharpen your problem-solving skill and design skills, you should try to join hackathons.
🔍 You will see many problems and solutions in the area which you chose.
📝 You can get feedback.
🎤 You will learn how to present your design idea.
The hackathon has multiple problem areas and a great jury team below 👇.
I am happy to see Irem Ozekes whom I have followed her great posts for a while as a jury.

This is such important work from Quant UX Con!
Ben Cortese and Allison Pierce, PhD demonstrate how the "quant" method of MaxDiff can produce better, more reliable, and more useful results when it is conducted, not alongside but rather INSIDE "qual" research.
Some of us have done this for a long time but only with intuition. It is wonderful to see such careful attention and scientific inquiry! #maxdiff#conjoint#quantuxcon2024#uxresearch
Quantitative Thought Leader | Curating innovative, data-driven solutions through end to end quant research
Thanks to everyone that joined our session at Quant UX Con! Such a great discussion driven by thoughtful questions to push small sample research further. Special shout outs to Allison Pierce, PhD for her hard work leading this analysis and Karl Neumann for moderating the session!
Our framework - Micro Modeling - was developed based on a few comments Chris Chapman made a while back about executing MaxDiff within IDIs. We've validated this approach and outlined guidelines and guardrails for successful use.
Here's a quick summary for those of you that missed it.
