How did your family respond to emotion, especially yours? As adults that can cause so many problems with our ability to manage the stress of being adults, to connect with other people, to allow our ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable, etc. We began discussing this in our weekly EMPOWER call and will do more of a deep dive next week.

👉This is How I help families change their teen’s behaviour in 90 days without years of therapy. 1️⃣I created the unique family blueprint questionnaire to help me and families get to know their families really well through a set of highly insightful questions. Instead of taking hours and multiple sessions to get to know the families’ stories and how these stories shape their life and behaviour. When you go to see a therapist, exploring your lived experiences is important and it often takes a very long time as the discussion and exploration doesn’t follow a structure and it’s very much depending on what you as a client bring to the session. 2️⃣I stopped focusing on 1 troubled behaviour at a time, instead I looked at all the troubled behaviour at the same time, and identified the common actual root causes of behaviour that hides 7 layers deep within complex family dynamics. This means parents know exactly what they need to focus on without wasting time and energy on finding out solutions. Then I use simple but highly effective, and customised strategies to help parents tackle root causes. The Results? ⬇️ All their teen’s troubled behaviour improves all at once and immediately when we develop the right strategy to address it. Tune in and have a listen.

Sitting watching "Inside Out" tonight with my 9 year old, it struck me how amazing the movie is in the explanation of trauma, but also the risks of toxic joy. If you haven't watched it, take a couple hours (could be professional development credits time) and consider the following. - The work done to make everything joyful (toxic joy) is where events start to go sideways - Anger gets a lot of time at the drivers seat with Joy and Sadness gone - Unaddressed trauma can quickly lead to loss of self (loss of islands of personality) - The father's primary emotion is Anger, whereas the mothers is Sadness - In childhood, emotions individually have a big sway in behaviour when they are in control (more easily dysregulated), whereas adulthood are more democratic in how they react (though adults become dysregulated all the time) - Anger and fear make poor decision makers, and decisions are best made when we are connected with all our emotional experiences, and with those around us. I am excited to see Inside Out 2 soon and what lessons it has.

Saw this and had to share. Sometimes it seems easier to give a short generic response to this question because we assume someone is asking simply to be polite. Or worse, you find the words to express your feelings and the person asking really doesn’t want to know. I’ve experienced both scenarios, and I’ve found it helpful to jot down my feelings and to form shapes of expression around them. Don’t forget about the power of journaling this month. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthJournal #CommunicateFeelings #Mind #MentalHealthAdvocate
