The last half-decade of my life has been... intense? I left my family in the city I always lived in, and moved to the capital Vilnius. Then my family pulled an uno-reverse on me and moved to Spain, leaving me alone in Lithuania. I was working at Macaw back then. Little did I know, it would be the last time I'd ever work in an office. The last time to have morning coffee conversations about tech, or sitting in an office alone at 8pm because production is down. After working for almost a year there, I found a promising remote company - TestDome. We clicked. So my remote-work journey began. Started it before the entire world was forced into it. Soon after starting at TestDome, I pulled another uno-reverse card on my family, moved from Europe to the Philippines. And oh how life changes when you move from a country with 3 million people to a city with 15 million people. Even though I've lived here for 4 years now, I'm still amazed by the highways that go above 5 floor buildings, the condominium I live in is taller than the tallest offices in Lithuania. I remember as a kid, we would visit my grandparents rarely, because they were so far. A 40 minutes drive to their village from our city. Now, if I'm going to a place that is 30 minutes drive away, it's like visiting a neighbor. From one end of the city to the next it can take longer than driving through entirety of Lithuania to go to the beach - a big trip we would do once a year. Work at TestDome was great, it was a first company that wasn't outsource/client based. Just direct SaaS, which I found a lot of fun to work with. There's a lot less politics involved when you are not dealing with outsourcing contracts. Everything was going well. But then Covid happened. Covid was really hard for me. The Philippines was one of the strictest countries when it came to it, with lockdowns lasting the longest. Plus covid started literally a month after volcano eruption finished, so we had soft lockdowns and wearing masks due to ash falling before covid started. I got burned out. When covid ended, my 7 year long relationship ended, I also quit my work and just had to focus on myself and recover. For 2 years I did nothing productive, I just traveled a lot(most of south east asia is visited now, yay!), rediscovered my love for books and video games. And I started a new relationship(we are now engaged btw!). After 2 years of being in recovery mode, got an urge to go back into coding. And the world is different now with the AI, inflation and ongoing war in Europe. But need to do something. What's a better way to start than making something of your own?
