The Magic of Rest..... Rest is essential for children, providing them with the break they need from their busy school routines. Reflecting on my own childhood, I remember the joy of summer breaks filled with playing Suwe, Skippo and Skipping, reading my favorite Ghana story books, you know those one's that have part 1 to 4😄, and playing outside with friends. These moments were not just fun—they were crucial for recharging and rejuvenating. Here are some activities to help children rest and recharge this break: Outdoor Play: Encourage activities like biking, or simply playing in the park. Creative Projects: Let kids engage in arts and crafts. Family Time: Plan game nights, movie marathons, or cooking sessions together. For children who struggled during the school year, focus on positive reinforcement and skill-building activities that are fun and educational. Rest is crucial for children as it fosters creativity, reduces stress, and improves overall well-being. Dr. Laura Markham says, "Children need downtime to process what they’ve learned, to play creatively, and to recharge" (Markham, 2020). What are your thoughts on the importance of rest for children? Do you have other activity suggestions? Rahina Kogi-Enweliku #iamalinkedinteacher #linkedinforteachers #themumsteacherwithlinkedinteachers #saturday #rest #holiday #summerbreak

So here in Derby it's the first week of the Easter holidays! When it comes to the holidays, I personally feel a more noticeable push/pull for my parenting. I both look forward to and love the time off with the kids, but also dread them. I want to create positive, amazing memories for my children, but I also want to keep them safe, parent proactively to reduce the possibilities of meltdowns occurring, prevent isolation but also limit social times (as these can be exhausting). Explore new places but protect them from the ignorance of others and the triggers that come from days out during holidays (sensory overwhelm from increased demand, accessibility etc). I want to create structure and routine to help with the lack of from school, however I also love a chilled day, the low demand type days, with my kids. I want to be present and enjoy the moments, but also need to time to regulate myself to deal with the challenges effectively; co-regulation can only happen when the adult is regulated too! Getting a balance is hard! Do you resonate with this? What would you add? What tips would you give to other SEND families during the holidays? #sendwellbeing #visualsupport #sensorystrategies #makingmemorieswithfamily #sendcommunity #mumssupportingmums #SENDderby #parentcarer #childrenandyoungpeoplewellbeing #derbysend #wellbeingwisederby #derby #autismmum #parentcarerwellbeing #autismderby #wellbeingderby #schoolholidays #easterbreak2024 #sendparentingsupport #sendparent

What three things did you love doing the most as a child? 1. I had a fantastic selection of Matchbox cars and lorries and was given a garage. I spent hours creating roads on the carpets and driving the vehicles all over. Thinking about this I still love driving. I love my car and maps. I have longed to go to the Map library. I'm making a date with myself for that one. I've put it off too long. What have you put on the back burner like that which would make your innerchild happy? 2. Jigsaw puzzles I spent days and days looking at the pieces and then putting them into the right place. My parents only allowed me to do them at the weekend because otherwise it was all I would do. However my jigsaw, which lived on the kitchen table, was carefully covered with a cloth during the week and we ate on it 🤣🤣🤣 I still do jigsaw puzzles. Mmm. 3. Swimming I lived in a hot country and was able to swim wherever I wanted. I could walk to the pool everyday and did. This is much harder magic to reclaim and a reason I love going on holiday - to swim in the warm sea. What are your three things 👇👇👇 #innerchild #childhoodgames #playingwithyourinnerchild #childhoodmemories #childhood #innerchildwork #healchildhoodtrauma #healchildhoodwounds #humandesignprojector #humandesignguide #ifs #innerchildmeditation #innerbeing #parentingyourself #reparentingyourself #childwithin #momsonthego #momsalone #momslife #matchboxcars #jigsawpuzzles #swimminginthesea #ifs

Family time with children during the weekends is not only enjoyable but also incredibly beneficial for their overall development and well-being. Engaging in activities together fosters strong family bonds, boosts children's self-esteem, and provides valuable opportunities for learning and growth. From outdoor adventures like nature walks, bike rides, or trips to the park, to indoor activities such as board games, arts and crafts, or baking sessions, there's always something fun and exciting to do together. The benefits of family time for children are numerous. It provides them with a sense of security and belonging, strengthens communication skills, and teaches important values such as teamwork, empathy, and resilience. Additionally, regular family time has been linked to better academic performance, improved mental health, and reduced risk-taking behaviors in children. By prioritizing family time during the weekends, we not only create strong bonds within the family unit but also lay the foundation for children's future success and happiness. So make the most of weekends by spending quality time together, nurturing relationships, and creating lifelong memories. After all, the time we invest in children today will shape the adults they become tomorrow. #lluviahealth #lluvia #childhoodmemories #familyadventure #familybonding #qualitytime #kidstime #parentingwin
