A recent conversation with a student at PVU reminded me that career clarity often comes from exploring our strengths and values—a principle that holds true at any stage. Whether you’re stepping into your first role or aiming for executive leadership, aligning your work with your strengths can be a game-changer. Here are three actionable “how-to” steps to help you at any stage align your work with your strengths: 1️⃣ Identify Your Core Strengths Take time to assess what you do best and what energizes you. Reflect on past roles, projects, or assignments where you felt in flow or received positive feedback. 2️⃣ Seek Roles or Projects that Play to Those Strengths Look for opportunities that allow you to use your strengths in meaningful ways. For example, if your strength is relationship-building, focus on roles or projects that involve collaboration, mentorship, or client engagement. 3️⃣ Communicate Your Strengths Clearly Don’t assume others know your strengths. Share them openly with managers, mentors, or teams, and look for ways to showcase them in your work. This approach is central to the coaching I offer through Lynn George Consulting, helping clients create careers that are both impactful and fulfilling. PS. Last week the weather was beautiful in Houston at PVU and I stepped outside to enjoy it. #growthanddevelopment #careerpurpose #careerdevelopment

Being Proactive, Not Reactive In leadership, waiting for problems to emerge is never an option. As a department head, I always tried to anticipate challenges before they became urgent. Whether it was addressing staffing needs early or intervening on students issues, taking proactive steps gave us a major advantage." #ProactiveLeadership #ProblemSolving #YoungLeaders

🌟 Boosting My Leadership Skills with Confidence to Communicate! 🌟 I recently had the opportunity to take part in the Confidence to Communicate for Leadership in Schools course led by Mark Pritchard & Jennifer Bartram and it was a game-changer for me. 📚 What We Covered: • Contracting: I learned effective techniques for setting clear expectations and fostering a positive environment. • Entry: We mastered the art of making powerful first impressions and establishing credibility from the start. • Body Language: Understanding the nuances of non-verbal communication was eye-opening. It’s incredible how much you can convey without saying a word! The insights and skills I gained have already made a noticeable difference in my approach to leadership. If you’re in education and looking to enhance your communication and leadership abilities, I highly recommend exploring opportunities like this. #Leadership #Education #CommunicationSkills #ProfessionalDevelopment #SchoolLeadership #ConfidenceToCommunicate

It was not easy. A bunch of demanding courses involving multifaceted engagements, heaps of reading and practical assignments (including submitting recorded interviews)--- it took me over a year to complete. But I am fascinated by the quality of the program, the immense knowledge and wisdom of the professors, and the excellent and supportive staff. I earned significant knowledge of the existing literature on leadership, in-depth analysis of leadership traits, focused decision-making, team management, and overall drawing a purpose-driven career path. I learned that among all leadership styles, servant leadership is the best accepted, adaptive, and proven-to-be successful style. This inspired me to the core: doesn't it involve looking at the world and fellow humans from a POV of gratitude and fulfillment? I hope this hard work will pay off if I can demonstrate true SERVANT LEADERSHIP in a truly innovative organization. Thank you Prof. Tyler Okimoto Prof. Kris Ryan. Thank you The University of Queensland! #upskill #businessleadership #leadership #micromasters #universityofqueenland

Leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about service, responsibility, and getting the job done. Whether or not you’re in a formal leadership position, every leader must be ready to handle any challenge that arises. Here’s why "not my job" should never be part of your vocabulary: 1. Lead from the Front: Assuming certain tasks are beneath you can create a disconnect with your team. On the first day in a new building, I delivered erasers to classrooms—not glamorous, but necessary. Leading by example fosters respect and shared responsibility. 2. Build Team Unity: Being willing to handle small tasks, like delivering erasers, shows your team that you’re in it with them. This boosts morale, trust, and collaboration. 3. Take Ownership: Handling even minor tasks, like ensuring classrooms are ready for students, demonstrates investment in the organization’s success. Ownership builds credibility and inspires others. 4. Break Hierarchies: Effective leaders don’t let titles stop them from serving. Supporting your team, no matter the task, proves leadership is about service, not status. Leadership is rolling up your sleeves, taking responsibility, and setting the tone through action. What’s the last task you stepped up to handle? Let’s discuss how to embrace service and ownership in leadership. #LeadershipByExample #LeadWithService #OwnershipMindset

A key learning moment in my administrative career in educational leadership emerged during a strategic planning initiative. Assembling diverse stakeholders to chart a course for the future highlighted the intricate balance between ambition and feasibility. Through this process, I grasped the importance of setting realistic goals while also inspiring innovation and growth. Collaborative discussions illuminated the complexities of aligning resources, priorities, and aspirations. Embracing flexibility and adaptability became paramount as unforeseen challenges arose. This experience underscored the necessity of visionary leadership, effective communication, and data-informed decision-making in shaping a sustainable and impactful strategic plan for the institution. #LeadershipInsights #StrategicLeadership #EducationalInnovation

#RONservation: Hiring for quality instructional leaders seems to be even harder in 2024. I started noticing this trend in Q1 of this year, whether talent teams are inundated with more talent acquisition work, the market of instructional leaders looking for roles has decreased, and/or school turnaround efforts have increased which puts an increased demand on experienced turnaround school leaders. Curious to see what my friends in district/charter instructional/talent leadership are seeing. Feel free to comment below or message me directly!
